Are you robbing your kids of their childhood? | | This was the frontpage headline on our national daily yesterday. A survey done by two journalists stated that many parents are sending their children after school to extra activities that used to be adult activities. Kids today are no longer kids, they have virtually lost their childhood because of parents demand to be excel in all field. Should kid have their own childhood life for them to enjoy and remember when they grow older?

It pains me to see little tots (I'm talking 4 and 5 year olds) being ferried to swimming, piano, English class, etc. I live out in the countryside so the pace is a bit slower. A friend of mine in the city near me said that most kids in her neighbourhood were out after school until 8 or 9 oclock, then they have homework to do. Of my four kids only my eldest has lessons after school, piano. The others haven't shown any intersest but I am thinking of some sport for my 9 year old. He needs a bit more exercise! If the kids enjoy some activity they should do it. I teach English from my house. I have kids coming who love it and are very willing to try and learn. A few of my former students have gone on to study abroad!! But when a mother has to drag a kid in screaming and kicking then I tell them to go home and do something together that is fun for the kid. dreamjapan
