What do you think about having carpet in the kitchen or bathroom..
I tried to say to my landlord that carpet in the kitchen really is inpractical ..as grease falls and if fire should fall some how it would quickly start the house aflame and then in the Bathroom ..so much water being splashed would eventually make the carpet moldy.
What are you thoughts about carpet in the kitchen or bathroom areas of the house???

Carpet is popular in many homes but not in all par

That does seem a little strange. I've never heard of anyone have carpet in either of those rooms. I agree that it's highly impractical and how long can you really expect a rug to last in the kitchen with all the spills. We have little squares of carpet in the bathroom beside the sinks and outside the bath and shower and we have to wash them regularly because they get so beat up.

myLot reputation of 93/100. littlefranciscan (5143)  5 years ago

I tried to explain this to my landlords when I moved in nearly 4 years ago and now the carpet is showing signs ..it's all over the house..I told them I prefer to have no carpet then have it all over the house..it holds everything..and moreover I have cats who think the carpet is to sharpet their claws on;)+

I definitely would never put a carpet in the kitchen. I have never heard of anyone who's done that, it's just so impractical and a bit stupid if I'm honest. The kitchen floor gets so dirty between one thing and another, cleaning it would be a nightmare.
I also wouldn't want one in my bathroom because it would get quite wet, and I'd rather clean a tile floor or any other similar surface.

myLot reputation of 93/100. littlefranciscan (5143)  5 years ago

I agree..The carpet in the bathroom has not served really well I end up putting carpet squares on top of the carpet to try to protect the carpet..like little mountains all over the place:)+

carpets in the bathroom are alright but not the best idea, having it in the kitchen is wrong, because things always get spilt on the floor by accident it would be a waste of money becaus ethe carpet would get so dirty, that is why a hard floor is recommended.

myLot reputation of 93/100. littlefranciscan (5143)  5 years ago

I hear ya..just can't convince my landlords to take it up..I think if I do it myself they will be alright with it:)+

I once rented a house that had a carpet in the bathroom and I hated it! The reason being just what you said. It's so hard to keep moisture from getting in there and the carpet molding. Just doesn't make sense to put it there.

myLot reputation of 93/100. littlefranciscan (5143)  5 years ago

I know ..and it looks awful once the carpet has had water fall on it too much..Well my house has carpeted bathroom and kitchen..I will be in this apartment now 4 years in May so I am going to see if I can pull it up..Wonder if the garbage men will haul it away;)+

Bathroom and kitchen are the rooms in a house with more germs, so they must be easily washable. I think carpets there is a crazy idea.

myLot reputation of 93/100. littlefranciscan (5143)  5 years ago

I agree..It is what I have been saying all along .. I just don't seem to be able to convince the people that can change the carpets;)+

we used to live in an apartment where the bathrooms have carpets. It's really comfortable in winter we don't have to wear slippers to the bathroom, but then we have to make sure the carpet is dry everytime we finish using the bathroom or else it might get moldy. now in our house we don't use carpets unless in the bedroom since I'm allergic to it

myLot reputation of 93/100. littlefranciscan (5143)  5 years ago

How do you dry the carpet in the bathroom; since you said you need to make sure that the carpet is dry in the bathroom or else it will get moldy;)+

myLot reputation of 95/100. LittleMel (7625)  5 years ago

at the time there is an exhaust in the bathroom. sometimes I forgot to turn it on and the carpet will smell. we have the exhaust here in the house to avoid water damaging the wooden structure.

myLot reputation of 93/100. littlefranciscan (5143)  5 years ago

You are lucky littlemel to have an exhaust in your bathroom.. I think many bathrooms are made this way; but mine, unfortunately never was blessed with that part so I cannot dry the carpet that way..I end up throwing rugs out and hoping I remember they are there so I don't fall and break a bone or my neck;)+

I definitely do not like carpet in either of those places. One thing about the bathroom is as you say it will get wet and than you have mold. Not only that but when guys use the bathroom their aim is not always true and it lands on the floor. If it is carpeted think about the smell that would come about. Sorry guys but this is true. I have had it happen in my house. I had to tear the carpet out to get rid of the smell. I no longer have carpet in the bathroom. In the kitchen it also is not good. The cooking is done in the kitchen and spills do happen. Grease spilling amongst other things. It would not be easy to clean a carpet in the kitchen.

myLot reputation of 93/100. littlefranciscan (5143)  5 years ago

Eww..you are right and you know what..sometimes us women don't always make it;)lol have to be fair...it's nasty:)+

My parent's have just tiled their kitchen area but their place is 26 or 27 years old, it had carpet in the kitchen - i think that some places just had that from the older days! Apparently, it was the things to do when that house was built!
Grease shouldn't hit the carpet if you have your appliances aren't that close to the edge of the benches - well, my parents never had any problems with it. However, unless there's a spark or something, grease shouldn't be able to ignite on just carpet - at least i've never heard of that happening.
As for the bathroom - well i've never known carpet to be in there - that one does seem weird to me!

myLot reputation of 93/100. littlefranciscan (5143)  5 years ago

I think most people have agreed on this topic at least all are in agreement about the carpet in the bathroom;)+

I do not feel carpeting is appropriate in the kitchen or bathroom due to spilling foods and liquids in the kitchen area that would stain and ruin the carpeting. I prefer vinyl or tile or wood flooring in the kitchen and bathroom areas. No carpeting for me in the kitchen or bathroom. He is definitely a strange landlord to have that type of flooring in those rooms.

myLot reputation of 93/100. littlefranciscan (5143)  5 years ago

Well he and his wife..it's more his wife's decision..I think..but they are both up there in years..like late 70's ..thanks for piping in and sharing your opinion on this matter, Ken;)+

It would seem quite stupid to carpet the areas that you mention for the same reasons that you mention.

I agree. Seems stupid ..doesn't it?:)+
