Do you think that horror films are the way they used to be? Do you think they are as good as they used to be? Personally I think that horror movies are very unoriginal nowadays. They used to be very imaginative. Think about Nightmare On Elm Street. These films had lots of creativity in them.

I think what most horror movies lack is good content, they're just out for the shock factor.

Yeah I agree they do seem to go for the shock factor now.

Some horror movies do have cliched stories. These of course are based on predecessors that have been successful in entertaining generations of moviegoers. These days, horror movies are made specifically to get a reaction from audiences, like make their hearts beat faster and experience dread in the safety of their seats. It's that simple. Although some do take the audience to the deeper levels of thought and go to the brink of the philosophical an metaphysical. These are rare, I think. Still, many of the classics like the Dracula movies where Christopher Lee played the immortal vampire have the feel of a good novel when you watch them. Contemporary vampire movies nowadays just leave you thrilled to have seen some gore, action, and cool special effects. Old movies had to rely much on mood and atmosphere to produce the same effect. If you have read Edgar Allan Poe's The Cask of Amontillado, you know what I mean about mood and atmosphere. Many old horror movies leave you feel like you read a good book. New movies usually leave you feeling like you stepped out of a carnival ride. What do you think?

No I don't think so. Horror films used to be more about suspense with some gore tossed in. Now they're all about violence, blood and gore with more blood and gore. I don't watch horror films anymore for that reason. Just too gross for me to stomach anymore.
