As i not going to be here for a week it`s time for me to release three more of the kangaroos that i have been rearing for the past fourteen months .It will be a sad time but my ultimate goal is to set them free as it was intended in the begining.
So tomorrow morning at eight we will catch them and sedate them fot the 1 1/2 hr trip to their new home in thwe wild .It is a very stressful time for both them and me as their carer but i have done this so many times before and it`s such a good feeling to see them regain their composure and slowly wander off.The last three we release all decided the first thing they wanted to do was go for a swim in the dam .We were so apprehensive as they had never seen so much water in their short life but to our amazement they all swan across the dam and got out the other side without and problems just goes to show you that there are some inbuilt things in eact animal that they know for themselves .
So it`a good bye to Bill, Kanga and Sally tomorrow it`s been a lovely time knowing you .

Thanks missy it`s something i just love doing but it`s a shame that the other members of our animal group have lost their way i joined this group as i wanted to be there for the animals but now certain members have made it so hard that i no longer want to be part of their group .I will find some way to take care of my animals myself especially the orphaned joeys they are my favourites .But at the moment my op is my concern atm and maybe once it`s over and i have the all clear then i will fight for them again i will still have two small ones here Libby and Jack they are the last two and will be with me for at least six months

We will miss you being here at myLot, but know how important of a mission you are setting out on. Ahh, that must be difficult. But it is also a wonderful thing that you have done in saving their lives. Bill, Sally, and Kanga will always be in your heart and know that they will always know that humans can be compassionate healers. Bless you and have a safe trip.

I'm sorry you have to turn your babies loose.
You are doing the right thing, though. Keep strong and be safe on your trip.
...and thank you for looking out for God's creatures.

visitorinvasion i can`t remember how many times i have released joeys but there has been an awful lot i just enjoy seeing that the joeys are given an even chance .their mothers were all killed in road accidents and the joeys have survived now they go free .It`s just the same being a parent without all the pain

How sad. I feel for you and I'm sure they will miss you just as much. I wish them a long and safe life. Its so nice that you take care of them until they are big enough to be turned lose. Do you resue them as baby's or what. How do you get them. Are you a"Ranger" or what ever its called in your country. I'd be interested to know if you have time. Probably when you come back. Take care and don't cry to much they"l be happier with their own kind even though they know you as papa. All children grow up and need to be on their own.. Tammy

Tammy i`m just an ordinary mum who care for the native animals of Australia.I am a member of a wildlife carers group but not sure for how long I recieve the animals from members of the public or from the vets ,I take them home and care for them ,raise them and then release them .I get a lot of satisfaction from doing this and have been an active animal carer for the past 26yrs

It's a wonderful thing you're doing :)
I think it's wonderful when people take the time to help baby native animals grow up to be able to go back to the wild where they belong.
I have thought about doing it myself but i simply don't have the room or skills needed. I probably wouldn't have the time either - with a baby here - maybe i'll do it one day coz we'd like to move to a bigger property - a few acres at least :) The i'll at least feel like i'm doing something to help the native animals!
Hats off to you for doing such a wonderful job :)

Gemmygirl it`s something i just love to do and i have mainly picked the joeys to care for but infact i do look after many other animals whatever comes my way ,my hubby just shakes his head when he comes home from work to find yet another animal has been added to the family but he too is a softie and has his favourites he will sit around the corner and feed they joeys their dry feed by hand and then i see hum giving a joey a cuddle now and then. There will always be animals to care for so there is plenty of time enjoy your baby for the time being

It is wonderful that they can be saved hope .... and released back into the wild ... but I do wish they would stay off the highways all the same. Problem is that they jump out of nowhere and when I am hauling a 50 tonne load on the back of a couple of trailers, doing 100kph there is nowhere to go to miss them. You will know all that happens .... so I won't go into all the gory details here .... just wish there was somewhere they could be kept so they are not on the highways. Bright truck lights blind them too and this is often when they jump out .... car lights do the same too and more than once a couple of roos have been hit by cars or trucks travelling in convoy.
Good luck to them and let's be positive in that after all the care you have given them ... that they do stay away from the highways of our country.

My heart swelled and my eyes filled with tears as I read this post.
What a wonderful wonderful thing you are doing for these animals. I've never spoken to anyone who reared kangaroos before and I think for you to rear them and then release them into their natural habitat is such a precious gift for them.
I wish you well in releasing them tomorrow.

Wow...that is a great thing you are doing. It must be very rewarding. I do feel your pain though...letting go of any animal is heartbreaking...especially after raising them. I think that you are doing the right thing...and you should take solice in that....

you take care hope,I know how it feels to help wild animals and birds,My personnel best was a wild duck that had it's wing broken by hunters,I ended up taking it home, then to the vets to have the wing fixed, then let it live in my back yard for a year before it was able to leave on it's own, then it kept comming back every year to our yard as it new it was safe and with food.
I will be looking for your return after your op.
Blessed be.

Really, I think it would be very hard for me to let them free if I'm the one who care them for almost over a year. Glad to know that there are people like you here in mylot, I only see people who really care for animals in tv like national geographic.
Well good luck for tomorrow and hope that you will have this victory again after a year and let another animals be free in the world of jungle.

This is a great post. I think what you're doing for these animals is a wonderful thing. I can understand how it would make you sad to see them go and make you happy at the same time to see how healthy and strong these animals have becomed while in your care.
