I like my career as a language teacher. I prepare each of my lesson plans with all my passion, aiming at rousing students ardour in learning in class. But sometimes I found your own effort for doing something is not enough to keep your own passion, especially for a language teacher like me. Students' feedback and response in class influence my teaching greatly indeed. If my hard preparation met the offish faces or inactive response from my students, it immediately affect my further effort to carry on audourly. The rest of the class would become boring because of lack of enthusiasm from both parts, teacher and students. In another word, my teaching passion is strongly affected and controlled by the students' reaction. What about yours?

I'm not a teacher in the traditional sense, but I am a collegiate level writing consultant (in other words a tutor). I can relate to what you're saying. In my tutoring sessions, the success or failure of the session is dependent upon many factors; enthusiasm is one of them. In order for a session to go well both parties, the tutor and the tutee, must meet in the middle in terms of enthusiasm. If a student is less than thrilled with their paper or the fact that they need a tutor, part of my job is to try to get them excited about their writing. Most of the time that simply requires some positive feedback and some encouragement from me. On the other hand, if I'm having a bad day or I'm tired, that could affect my tutoring ability and the student may get discouraged with himself based upon my lack of enthusiasm. It really is a great balancing act to teach and to be heard while providing a fun, enthusiastic environment for students. Sometimes, despite our best efforts, students just don't give us as much back as we put into them.

Hmmm...well, I think students already carry some of that responsibility on their shoulders. When a student likes a class or is excited to a specific class it is generally because that class is high energy and fun for them to participate in. Likewise, when they don't particularly like a class it's often times the result of enthusiasm from the teacher and/or their classmates. Sometimes it's just because they find the subject matter hard. Anyway, my point is that students know what makes a classroom experience fun and they know that what they bring to the table (or desk in this case lol) has a lot to do with it. I'm glad you found my response worth reading...thanks for best response!

Hi, your reply has hit the point. That's what have happened to me. Whether the whole class is lively or not relys in most part on us teachers. When I am in high spirit or energetic, I communicate with them with broad smile, the class would be active and students be excited. If I came up with some fresh ideas for class activities, things turned up even better. But things are not always going on like that. We can't be forever in rose mood and our wisdom would run out now and again. That's why we are put on the passive side as the class's atmosphere forever needs the teacher to generate. We should think of some ways to switch part of this responsibility onto the shoulder of the students instead. Don't you think it possible?

There is no worse feeling than, after preparing a lesson plan that you are excited about, finding that it is falling flat. I always prepare two lessons so that if I find one is not working, I have a fall back option. To motivate my self, I think of my self as an actor as well as a teacher. When I step through the door of my classroom I am stepping onto the stage and my job is to entertain as well as teach.

Very interesting and fresh idea that being a teacher is being an actor or actress. I think most teachers are acting like an actor withoug being realizing it themselves. You are right there. Thinking back on what I have been doing, I was just like an actor myself. I found myself totally different in and outside the class. Ok, your remark clarifies the teachers' roles in class. I benifit from your remarks.

I agree with what you say. however I found that if the teacher starts to get to know about the things the students are passionate about and then tailor the lessons to suit their interest, life becomes very much more bearable as a teacher. I make it a point to have short chats with my students either during or outside the lesson and this gives me a good insight into their interests. So try it it out and see how they become more willing to learn the things you are passionate about.

To chat with students in or outside class is a very good idea. it draws the relationship between the students and teachers closers and in turn promotes the active almosphere in class. I'll take up this idea and try it on my students. thank you.

Good point. Constructive questions are kinds of activator that helps initiate students' interest in learning though coming up with constructive questions is not a piece of cake. I'll take it into my first consideration in preparing my lesson anyway. Thanks.

Hmm, for me,firstly when wake up at the morning i will smile, because this will give good effect on you mood. After that i will think about my class. Preparation, will be taken if i'm wanted to fill the passion. What i see, when you are very energetic, you student will energetic too, so this passion is very important.
When all preparation is ready i'm will ready to give all the best to my class, but not all day i can prepared, some class took a boring hour, it is because i don't make enough preparation for my class, so when this happen i look at mt student and their also feel down. So to make sure my class is full energy i will make sure that my self is full of energy.
Lasly is preparation is most important to give the boost to my class and it's will make me more pasionate.

Good suggestion! Smile at the very beginning of a day and this will bring in good mood to ourselves. But this is easier said then done. Don't you think so. things are not forever bright on you. Even in blue mood, we have to put on a broad smile in order to elicit my students smiling through out the class. That's really a challenging thing for being a teacher. Right?

Being a teacher is a tough job. In order to not let the students bored with your lessons, catch their attentions through colorful and creative visual aids. In my 2 years of teaching, most students get hook with those "cool" stuffs. Another is by giving some reinforcements. According to an educational psychology book, reinforcements are things used to students to keep them motivated such as candies, chocolates, certificates, praises or anything that keep them inspired and motivated. Create some games that makes your discussions fun and comfortable. Make them feel comfortable by having a conducive place of learning/training room.

My job as a teacher was challenging as I was teaching blind students voluntarily and was not knowing the brail script. So the purpose of helping others and making students write correct without knowing what exactly they are writing kept me alert and energetic. Whenever I was telling them to repeat what I had dictated to them and finding that they were writing the correct thing I felt proud and motivated.
