Is C.P. always caused by a doctor's mistake??? |
|
My daughter has C.P. She was born at a very well known and good hospital here in Michigan. And I have been told to sue them but I'm unsure if something went wrong because of them or something else. Can anyone help me understand what are the causes of C.P.? I hate to sue them if it wasn't their fault. I don't remember much of her birth because they did an emerecany c-section. But I was told by NICU nurses that she was overdue. She was born 5 lbs.15oz. And her skin was very dry and peeling off. Any help would be great.

1. razcal2267 (7466) | 1 year ago | The short answer is no cerebral palsy is not always caused by a doctor's mistake. Here is a link so you can see some of the major causes: http://www.cerebral-palsy... A baby's skin is usually dry and peeling at birth and up to a month after birth so that really should not be anything to worry about.

babyangie27 (672) | 1 year ago | Thank you I checked out the page and it helped me answer some questions. When my daughter was born she wasn't breathing and she was revived, then she had several seizures. The nurses also said they believed this because she weighted so little, they told me she was going to be 8lbs,at one of my visits. Thanks you so much for reponding it was a great help.

babyangie27 (672) | 1 year ago | I forgot to mention she had swallowed her bowel movement while inutero, when the broke my water they found this and then I went into surgery for the c-section. This is another reason why many people thought she was overdue.

2. Thoroughrob (5380) | 1 year ago | My son has CP because I was around a chemical when I was 2-4 months pregnant. We have no idea what it was and they said it could have been in passing. He is now 12 years old. It would not hurt to contact an attorney and let them go over things. If it was a result of something they did, you would always get and have money for what they need.

babyangie27 (672) | 1 year ago | Thank you for responding, I am thinking about getting another attorney. I already have one for SSI because she was denied twice for benefits. It's glad to know I'm not the only mom out there with a child with C.P. I don't know of any in my area or in my daughter's school. Thank you.

3. dedicated_28 (664) | 1 year ago | Hi, your situation is very similar to mine. My child was 2 months pre-mature due to a placenta abruptia. My placenta detached from my uterus and deprived him oxygen, for an unknown amount of time. I woke up,stood up and started hemorraging. They took him emergency C-section and when they removed him he was dead. The worked on him for 9 minutes and finally was able to bring him back. He had seizures for the first 48 hours and then sporatically throughout the next 2 weeks. My son has been diagnosed with CP(severe spastic quadriplegia), hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy(brain damage due to oxygen loss), epilepsy, and a movement disorder among other things. It all stems from loss of oxygen at birth. Which kind of sounds to me like that is what happened to your child. I wish you the best of luck, my son will be two soon and functions around the month of a three year old, so I definately know what you are going through. If you ever need to talk I'm here for you, it makes things a little easier when you know that you are not alone and can actually talk to another parent that can relate to what you are going through. Take care, you'll be in my prayers.

babyangie27 (672) | 1 year ago | Thank you so much and I also hope for the best for you and your son. My daughter is doing well dispite all her problems but I sometimes feel guilty because I don't know what went wrong. I can't understand why she was overdue. But it is good to talk with parents that deal with similar problems. Thank you again for responding.

babyangie27 (672) | 1 year ago | Thank you for your kind words. I do believe. They told me she wouldn't live through her first few nights and she will be 5 in November. She is doing well things could be worse I know. If it wasn't for my faith I would have fallen apart years ago. I'm so glad to hear your story and I have faith that no matter what comes my daughter's way she will make it through. She is a true fighter. God Bless.

babyangie27 (672) | 1 year ago | Yes I am trying to do that but not sure who the best lawyer would be to contact. If anyone has any ideas please let me know. It has been very hard I mean you never think my child will have problems, exspecialy when I was fine throughout my pregnancy. But she is a happy girl and I'm thankful for that.

| 6. marvie (12) | 1 year ago | There's a lot of possible causes of Cerebral palsy in a child. First group of causes happens during pregnancy or the pre natal causes. They are, prematurity; maternal infections such as rubella, herpes simplex and toxoplasmosis; metabolic disorders such as severe asthma, cardiac abonormalities and Diabetes; Rh incompatibility; inherited causes; drugs and alcohols; Second group of causes occurs at the time of delivery or Perinatal Causes. Birth iNJURY, asphyxia, prematurity- very low birth weight, and anoxia from birth complications and respiratory distress are some of them. Postnatal causes are neoplasms, child abuse and neglect, cerebrovascular disease, infections like meningitis and abcess, neoplasms, and anoxia caused by smoke inhalation and drowning. hope i was able to help you even in a very little way.

babyangie27 (672) | 1 year ago | Thank you, I know she wasn't abused and I didn't drink or use drugs so I guess I will have to try to find help to review her records and find out why she had a bowel movemnt while inside my belly and then swallowed it,which caused her to not breathe when born. Your repsonse was very helpful.

7. cripfemme (2928) | 1 year ago | CP can caused by nurological disorders that just exist in the being naturally and nothing the doctor could have done would've helped it not be. A lot of people, especially ambulance chaser lawyers make money off of the parents of kids with CP by getting them to sue.
