Is sea boating and other water sports too dangerous?

My country does not have so many water sports-we do have white water yatching on the river Nile and it is a popular sport! But I do realise that unlike sports like football and basket ball where you run about on land, wth water sports, you are playing about with something that has no branches, the likelihood for Sharks attacking and drowning in sea water are really high. Do you think sea water sports is too dangerous?

Where do you have white water yachting on the Nile? I had a holiday in Egypt in January which included a Nile cruise and it seemed to be all quite calm to me.
