Do you love your vacuum cleaner? Is it one you'd recommend to others?

This may seem like a boring topic but I need input...I am ready to buy a new vacuum cleaner and I have gone out looking and am baffled by the many brands and features. I don't care for the bagless ones as many don't have good safety features for your lungs when you empty them...and who wants to line their lungs with the fabulous grime off your living room rug?...I have one Oreck DutchTech and I really like it but it's a canister and I'm looking for an upright. So here I am counting on my myLot friends for moral support during my search for the world's best vacuum cleaner...do you own it? Do you have the cleanest floors and furniture in your city because of a wonderful vacuum cleaner? Or are you struggling along each day trying to be happy with the poor performing vacuum you have? If not the owner of the perfect machine, are you the bearer of facts and warnings for me to consider during my search...I'm listening and hoping to hear a lot!!!

Oh yes there are many brands of vacuum cleaners out there in the market, but I would never recommend a vacuum that has a bag and I do believe that it is best to have a vacuum that is an upright and bagless. I have a friend that has one of these and she recommended it to me before when we were talking about vacuum cleaners.

I am one of the many Kirby fans. I will say this, they are expensive. BUT that being said, they are fairly worth their price. I can't honestly say that I agree these babies are worth as much as they are, even if they came with a butler.. lol.. but it truly is the one and only machine I've bought in all my years that has stood up to the trials and tribulations of my household. The kirby is tuff, stands up to anything, has other options that make it useful as more then just a sweeper (shampoo kit, butler kit that does buffing and other stuff, reverse blower and probably more I can't remember). It also stands up to a house with 3 kids, many cats, 3 dogs and 3 people with long hair (which is a huge thing for most sweepers to survive). The lifetime warranty makes it worth its price alone. My aunt and uncle purchased the Oreck, the most expensive model, and it was about 1/2 the cost of my Kirby but they aren't completely gung-ho on it from all I've heard them say. They don't think it's super fantastic in comparison to other models they've had and believe me they've had tons of others! LOL The only downside I have with the Kirby is that it's a little on the heavy side. That's not an issue when "pushing" it as it has drive belts that actually drive it forward but if you have to lift it for any reason or carry it up the stairs it's a pain in the .. well back actually!LOL But I wouldn't NOT get one based on just the heaviness. You can downsize the upright version and get a hand held version to use. Very unique and easy to do to make it easier to use on stairs, etc.

Ah...the Kirby...definitely a great reputation and a lifelong machine!!! The reason I hadn't considered this one was the exact reason you stated. I have issues with heavy vacuums...I have a bad shoulder and 3 levels to my house..so 2 full sets of stairs..I have to carry my vacuum up and down all the time...I'll want to check into what could be downsized to lighten it!! Thanks so for the great information....and the good recommend!!!

We have a cleaning business and have used lots of vacuums over the years, and I would recommend the Hako - but it's a backpack and I see you want an upright. At home we use an upright Samsung which is bagless, but it cleans the carpets and tiles really well. The best vacuum I ever had was an Amway upright (bagless); it was very powerful and did an amazing job - but very expensive. Whatever one you chose, get one with a decent sized motor (1200+), to give you the power necessary to clean your carpets properly. Hope this is of some help.

I haven't heard of the Hako..but will have to check it out.. I appreciate all the professional advice..from someone that would truly know vacuums!! Now I just wish you lived in my city so I could hire you to clean for me!!!!LOL...I've had such bad luck with bagless...when you open and empty them they are so offensive to my sinuses and nasal passages...I have bad dust allergies...so that's my hesitation!!!

While I do love having the attachments I have on this one, I'm not very happy with my bagless either. The filters are a pain to deal with and as mentioned, not very good for those with respiratory problems. :( While you're searching, let me know if you find one that will connect to the trashcan somehow & automatically dump the nasty stuff in the garbage where it belongs. I'd signup for one of those in a heartbeat, lol. Until then, you might look into a Dyson vacuum. They are supposed to have the best suction available in a vac. Here's a link to their site. http://www.dyson.com/homepage.asp

Yes I do love my vacuum! LOL As much as one can love a Vacumm. I keep mine plugged in on a 100 ft wire. I can reach all most every corner. I use it every day at 4pm before my husband comes home from work. When he is off, I don;t use it at all.
