Harmony Poem - The wall

Sunday, April 16, 2007 was the 60th anniversary of Jackie Robinson's debut in Major League baseball of the United States. Prejudice is like a wall, and whether we live in the United States, or just about any other part of the world, its something we need to deal with. What follows is a modified version of a poem I wrote twenty years ago. I'm not a poet, so it won't follow any rules of poetry, but I hope the words flow.
Each morning I wake,
I confront a wall.
Daring to be torn,
facing me with scorn.
A few people go over,
some sneak around.
Most don't make it,
none break through
A wall of ignorance and fear.
If super beings existed,
if magic true,
the wall would crumble,
its contents disappear.
Bricks bound together,
muscles flexed.
Standing tall and strong,
feeding and growing
A diet of ignorance and fear
Super beings never born,
Merlins are no more,
Mortals must collect
and overpower the wall.
Coming together,
minds open.
Education and understanding
choke and starve
A world of ignorance and fear.

I thought it said so much and the words did flow just fine. He was truly a hero to so many and for many reasons other than being the first Black Major League player. I appreciate your discussion on him and it reminds us all how very much every person has to offer!
Thanks
