Should dogs be allowed to lick babies' faces?

I know times have changed a lot since I was a youngster, but I was taught not to let dogs lick my face. I guess it was for hygienic reasons, yet I see dozens of video clips of dogs licking faces, sometimes of quite young babies....

does it take to get to the center of a tootsie roll pop? has anyone tested this theory? I once tried and I got to 1,698 licks before my tongue felt like falling off. i prefer sucking my lollipops. its less exhausting.

Has anyone ever tried this? If so what number did you come up with? A friend and I each tried it once and got about 1200 licks in the same spot before we reached the tootsie roll center.
