Frees up memory space

Why even after I remove programs in Vista, this not frees up memory space? I do it from Control Panel/Programs and Features/Uninstall,change. But icon show that the used space is still same?!

Gmail reached 8 GB today?

My gmail account reached 8 GB today. Its very good to use but yahoo gives unlimited space for emails but gmail is fast loading.
