The photo is of two yellow-billed spoonbill ibis (Platalea flavipes) which we saw while we were on our house-boat on the Murray River in Western Australia. You can see where the name comes from. There are six species which all...

While we were on our hired house-boat we motored upstream as far as we could go. There was the odd house that we could see from the river and in places, evidence that an area was used. If you look closely at the photo, you can see...

We’re home again after our two nights on a house-boat. Our briefing on Tuesday morning took the best part of two hours. We then headed upstream as far as we were allowed. There were lots of water-birds along the way and we took a...

I wasn't actually looking to photograph these two. I ended up walking across them while trying to track down another bird this morning (the one that ended up being the Eastern King Bird). They didn't run or fly away so I took...

We had a lot of rain last night and, as a result, most of the trails I normally walk were under water today. I did, however, manage to get in a short walk and came across this pelican as it was fishing on one of the ponds.
I...

I saw this heron as I was walking up one of the trails and decided to grab its photo. What I didn't realize, at the time at least, was there was also a turtle in the shot. I saw it later.

Yes, it's another crane photo. But, I'm posting it because I was so focused on getting this shot, I missed the deer that was standing a little ways up the path from me. By the time I realized she was there, I had missed out on...

I was able to get this photo while standing on a hill behind it. At first, it didn't see me and stayed pretty still. But, something spooked it (I think it was someone fishing on the shore) and it flew off right after I got the...

I originally saw this heron sticking its head up from some grass that was closer to me. It flew away and I had to settle for a photo of it on the other side of the pond. I guess they are coming back.

This is one of the cranes I photographed before. I managed to get the photo of it as it was starting to walk back into the marsh. I later got it and some of its friends on video (which I'll be posting to Youtube later).

I didn't see these two at first because they blended in with the marsh behind them. But, I did manage to see them in time to get a couple photos before they saw me and went back into the grass.

As I said before, they are surprisingly easy to photograph so, while I had an opportunity to, I decided to grab one more picture as I was walking back to my car. This one cooperated with me.

Some more cranes I spotted while walking near the marsh area of the park. I'm not sure how many were in there total but I'm guessing at least 10. They most likely have their nests in there.

I told my wife I'm going to have to take the girls out to the park this weekend if the weather is decent because I think they would get a kick out of these birds. The thing that surprises me about them is how relatively tame they...

I stopped by one of the other parks this morning before coming into the office and saw the pelicans are back. It was kind of dark out still so it was a little difficult to get a photo of them. But, I did manage to get one of this...

Another one that, by pure luck, was snapped as some of the geese came in for a landing on the water.

I ended up getting this one by pure luck. They came in for a landing just as I was snapping the photo.

Saw this group of geese as I was starting to walk back toward my car. They started swimming away a short while later but I was able to get a photo.

Again, just because they weren't swimming away from me at a high rate of speed, here's another photo.

I didn't even notice the duck in the middle of this group until I took a look at the photo a couple minutes ago.
