Johnny Depp, the role of Captain Sparrow

Do you think that they wrote the role of Captain Sparrow just for Johnny Depp? Depp was so good doing this character that I believe that it could be the only explaination for this... I am curious what you all think?

jmorris87 I'm not sure if they wrote it for him, but I do know he made the character his own. Johnny pretty much created the Captain Jack Sparrow character. He is brilliant!
