Why do "teachers" state the obvious? What other "obvious" things aggravate you?

Example, you're watching a cooking show and they state "remove the blade carefully" when telling you how to empty your food processor. Now, correct me if I'm wrong, but if I need HELP and need to be told to remove the blade CAREFULLY, perhaps I shouldn't be using the machine? Just a thought! What other "obvious" things aggravate you? Signs on hot coffee cups "Caution Contents are Hot"? No, really? And I thought I ordered the ICED coffee!

Some people are pretty dumb, and even intelligent people can do dumb things. I don't know how many people I've seen trying to take apart an electrical or electronic item to fix it while it was still plugged in. Or trying to get a stuck piece of toast out a toaster with a metal knife, while the toaster is still plugged in! May as well just stick your tongue in a light socket...

Actually, I beg to differ on this. They may sound obvious to you now, but it is not that obvious to the student then. A student might get carried away and place the focus on different thing. A reminder will not hurt. I am almost willing to bet that someone who has never handled a knife before will cut herself because the teacher forgot to remind the obvious. :P

How about the notice I saw on a box of birthday candles that says: CAUTION - "HOT" when lit! I didn't see that coming.

It all aggravates me too..but in this day and age of litigation every television show, every label on everything imaginable has to have a caution attached to it or the parent company/network is liable for the (pardon the dis) "idiot" that thinks because they weren't told that it's hot you somehow owe them money for their own stupidity. I've said it before and I stick by it..toilet paper will soon have some caution on it..I just know it!!! LOL

ROFL... Caution: may stick to butt hairs and cause pain when ripped off. Or: Caution: harmful if swallowed after use. LOL

How aout the sign on a packet of peanuts that state "May contain Nuts", talk about REALLY stating the obvious. Also I don't know if you know the cleaning agent Swarfega, it is used to clean your hands if you have come into contact with engine oil/diesel/petrol. It states on the tin "External use only", why would anyone want to insert that....then again...maybe that is a good statement to make...you never know what some people think.

So true. What happens is then people use it in obvious ways that can be detrimental and then go "well it didn't say NOT to" and then sue the makers!

That's good. I totally agree. We're idiots. They just needed to remind us of that

There really are people that stupid so the instructions such as "not for use in the microwave" on a metal dish, and warnings such as "contains nuts" on a packet of nuts, really need to be there. I know it is aggravating for anyone with an ounce of common sense and, to be honest, maybe those without common sense deserve everything they get, but companies need to cover their backs in case some moron decides to sue them for not telling them that their newly purchased washing machine wasn't suitable for use a a foot spa.

My hubby was struck by the sign on a high chair in the restaurant that stated "Not to be used upside down." Of course he did not know that people really do this to put child carriers on. I see that they have provided stands for that purpose now, at some restaurants. I cannot wait to see the other obvious stuff.

Well at least your hubby has a brain and thought it was stupid to even think of! LOL You can be happy of that I guess. Then again, if he were a little dumber perhaps he could win a huge lawsuit? LOL

Partly, restaurants, cooking shows, maintenance people, and others, need to state the obvious to cover their legal buttocks. If it had said CAUTION: Contents is Hot on the cup that was purchased by that woman at the driveup of the fast food place, the restaurant would have saved itself several million in damages, as if that dear sweet clown with the yellow and red outfit can't afford it.

Sure there are a lot of bogus warnings- Things that we should know- But America is so sue-happy. Look at the woman who sued McDonalds for the burning hot coffee- It spilled on her leg- there was no warning it would be hot to put it between her legs when she was driving- She won! So now we have the “this is hot”- warning on Mc’s coffee. I think that the American public make companies put these crazy labels on their products- They want to CYA—cover you’re a$$- so they don’t lose the business. They drive me crazy too- but I see why they are important.

Its human nature if they are not reminded of anything and if their absent mindedness leads to any mishaps they will blame others that they were not informed.like use asbestos gloves to take out dish from the oven, when we are in chemistry lab ,handle acids carefully as if one wants to play with acids or drink it.

Fools - Are all people foolish?
I was once buying a car and the car salesman was showing me everything and he said to me, this is the air condition switch, but you don't want to have this on in the winter time. Now how stupid do you think I am. I kind of laughed and gave him a weird look and said "Really"!!! I embarrassed him and I am glad of that.

What we consider obvious may not be so obvious to other people. Some really needed to be given directions, or be reminded of them. I think it was wise that even petty details are given, just for the sake of those few who might meet accidents just because they are neglected. Aggravating as it may be, just consider it as a public service.

I think a lot of it has to do with people who like lawsuits...you know, the ones who say Oreos made them obese and they didn't know that by eating package after this would happen. It's a good way to stop coniving people...maybe ones that would say...I didn't know the coffee was going to be that hot...and then sue sue sue. People are basically jerks.

They state the obvious to emphasize their point. That, and repeating themselves many times. IMO, I do think this actually does work and it does help people remember. Warnings like "remove blade carefully" might seem like something natural to most of us. But hey, the best of us can make a mistake. I still believe these obvious warnings are necessities. Just in case.
