I would love to do something with my life

NOT that I feel like I am not doing something with my life but there are other things I would love to do as well. Some of those things I can't do for various reasons. I can't become a doctor or nurse - too much school, too much money and things I can't deal with like vomit. I would love to be a therapist and work with special needs children like my son but I am not well enough to do so. Still I would love to be able to work with babies or at least yound children. I was thinking of the following things - a doula, a midwife (that would be pretty cool but it is probably as much as becoming a doctor or nurse in some sense), or even a lactation consultant. What do you think of those ideas? Do you have an information on any of them? Is anyone here any of those things?

I spent 10 years as a nurse...it was very challanging work..very stressful...and not personal time friendly at all...I was always being called in to work extra shifts and there were many things that we no fun at all...vomit can be nice in comparision....LOL I think that either a midwife or a lactation consultant would require as much school as a nurse... You have such a good heart and both hands full, my friend...you remind me of me...LOL

Thank you so much for replying. I am seriously going to look into something. I just really love working with babies/children. Heck if I could afford it I would either be trying to get pregnant or pregnant already! Hands full? Who me? Naah you must be mistaking me for someone else.... *walking away in fits of giggles LOL*

i agree with you. while we are young, we must try to do things not just anything but something. the conquences of our actions suggest the quality of our life when we grow old. When were young, we tend to do crazy things.this is what we call the age of beauty and let live ignoring the bad image that would be imprinted in our minds. so try to avoid immoral things when were still young. We can live a happy life if we follow the things should be followed or attitudes that should or should'n be done. WE should try it now and we will see that all the things we had done in the past years will be totally credited in the future.

Hello Maildumpster, Well, having a special needs child probably limits your time, and your ability to place work as a higher priority than your child. So, how about focusing on your area of expertisé? You clearly have an abundance of experience in dealing with the special needs of an impaired or disabled child. How about writing a book on that subject? I strongly suspect that you could even acquire grant money to fund the research/writing project. There is a marked increase in the numbers of infants born with Down's Syndrome in the USA, so your experience might not only be very helpful, but perhaps profitable. Or perhaps you could couple the book with, or run an independent web-site outlining special equipment, educational tools, and coping mechanisms to deal with the extra parental requirements of a special needs child? Given the fact that your number one priority is your own child, perhaps the focus of your desire to help others should focus on how to help those in your same situation. Just a thought!

Personally I think you can be most anything you set your mind to be. Somethings will take more time and be harder than others but you can do it. Also the things you mentioned all deal with the possiblity of being around someone who may get sick and vomit. But every job has things that are unpleasant. You can go to your local community college and get a two year associates degree cheaper than if you start out at a four year college. Also there are programs to help you pay for medical schools. You need to decide that that is something you would want to do then commi yourself to study so that you can make good grades. The better your grades the more likely you will be able to apply and win scholarships. You can do something you love, you just have to set your mind to doing it. and some days will be harder than others, but you have to just keep going. HTHS

I'm a midwifery student :) I just finished up my first year. I'm enrolled in an advanced program for September and hopefully this time next year I'll be doing an internship. It is not as much school as a doctor. IMO it's just as much if not more birth-specific education; but if you feel called to it you'll enjoy that too. I love the program I am attending. Is there a way to send messages off the general board here? Or are we allowed to put our email address into these messages? I'd love to help answer any questions you have about it.

I don't know much about the ones you mentioned. I think a midwife would require more physical health and application than you might have--don't know. There is a tutoring program in my area and I work part-time at that. So far I have had 6 students from kindergarten to fifth grade, that I have tutored one-on-one to help improve their reading and math skills. I have enjoyed that and felt like I was contributing something to them, their families and to life. The program I am in pays very well, but I don't know what may be available in your area.

I am getting my education right now and I go to sci-fi and comic book conventions. I babysit once in a while, but I also love to write a lot. I sing as well and I will be giving lessons soon. Do what you love to do. Do what you want to do. Do things that make you feel happy.

hello there I have just this minute started on mylot and caught your post and wanted to offer my support - you can really create anything you have the greatest capacity to create the life that you truly desire. And although it may take some determination and persistence I am a firm believer that we all create what we have already got and that there are reasons based on many past events that hold us back or block our motivation and drive to create what we want. I think it would be a great idea to work on yourself and really connect with the areas that would bring you joy and satisfaction. Many people are not sure what they really want and a great book to help you sort this out and create something new in your life is The Creating Game book. It starts you of with clearing a space so that you can learn to create something within a three month period. Nothing too tough although it can feel like that sometimes. When i first went through the 24 principles I wanted to learn to ride a horse and three months later I was putting a deposit down for mty own horse. I didnt think that was possible but I did. hope this is helpful
