I went to take my garbage out tonight. Connected to the house and onto the fencing was this huge spiders web. Also the creator of this web was sitting quietly in the dead center of this piece of artwork. Now I loved this shot. I had no idea as to the species of spider this is. But it got squished immediaetly after a couple shots were tasken for the purpose of this discussion. Does anyone have any idea as to the type opf Spider this is? I live in Minnesota USA. It was about the size of a half dollar around. Fat abdomen. Light brown in color. very slow moving. That's all I can say. But is this a decent shot of the web and spider or what? Thanks in advance all. I have one more shot that shows the spider a little better. Will add that after a response comes in. Thanks again. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Barn spider, may be your culprit.,,aka orb spider - Barn spider, may be your culprit...aka orb spider.
I did some net surfing for you and came up with this one. I will leave you the link too. Cool pictures of the creepy crawler !! Orb spiders are common spiders outdoors near buildings, but are usually not found indoors. They range in size from small to large (1/8 - 1 inch long) and are found in a variety of colors, with some being brightly colored. Orb spiders have large, swollen-looking abdomens, including some that are oddly shaped. They make the classic round, flat, wheel-like web familiar to most people. http://www.extension.umn.edu/distribution/housingandclothing/DK1033.html

Hmmm? Do Orb Spiders all have that decoration/markings on their abdomens? I don't recall seeing that marking. But then again I didn't look at it too long after snapping a few pictures. HAHAHA! Thanks for the link as well. Great work. It's appreciated a lot. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

Thanks. This thing was disgusting looking. Here's the best close up I got of it. It was huge too. I was not going to let this thing sit and maybe get into my bathroom like the last one I squished. ewwww. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I viewed both your photos, rated them & wrote a comment on both. It's a Golden Orb spider. They are very clever at making webs. Did you know, that poisonous spiders always have very messy, disorganised webs, & non poisonous spiders have organised webs? The Orb Spider probably makes the best webs.

Yeah the web was a work of art. I learn something new everyday. I guess the poisonous ones don't need the preety web and all to attract food huh? Thanks bunches. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB

Hi, Grandpa Bob, I promise I will look up your spider for you in my book in the morning if you do not have an answer. I just got in from a late night shift, and I am on my way to bed. Someone may know more than I do. My scariest experience with a spider involved turning around behind me and seeing one that was about the size of a robin's egg in the abdomen, yellow and black, with a funky zigzag web. It was guarding a storage facility door. Cheery thought, huh?

I am fairly sure that it is an Orb Spider, mostlikely a golden orb. I used to think they were only in Australia, but as the web in the photo you took was a giveaway, I did a quick internet check, & I believe Orb Spiders are found in north America. Orb spiders are complelely harmless & make very attractive webs.

Good shot, like a professional photographer. But what was it at the 'bottom-left' I mean for the yellow object there.?. I've responded to 'THE FORTUNE's discussion in last two days, also on spider, but hers was cross spider, according to Italian belief, that web and spider, better don't remove them....because they bring good luck to the entire family. HAPPY POSTING GRANDPA BOB!!!!! ::michael::

I'm a bit disappointed that you killed it mate. Was that necessary? I can't believe the number of people I've met on here that detest spiders for some reason.

For as much as I hate spiders this is a great picture! We also have these spiders all over in Northern Illinois, I bet I've made my hubby kill at least 10 of them over the last two weeks. I won't go near them, I see a big spider and I literally feel like I have to throw up.

Aww...sorry to hear you squished him/her. The picture is amazing and the web is certainly a beauty. I tend to live and let live with spiders as long as they stay outside. AT PEACE WITHIN ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

Thank you for sharing your spider with us, Bob! My son, Matthew is reading over my shoulder, and really loved it! We both learned something from this discussion. The spider in your other post (the one in your bathroom) we decided was a crab spider. My son brought a book home from the library about them, and we decided that is what it had to be. I don't know anything more about them, though. They aren't poisonous. Would you still have killed the spider if she had written "some pig" in the web? Just wondering. LOL!

Thanks for the BR. I have a few webs around here that could use your technique. LOL! My youngest (3) actually went out with the broom and tackled most of them. What a sweet darling, she is!

Hello! Poor spider, squished by grandpa bob! *hihihi*..I would probably do the same, well not me personally but will ask others to do it for me. I'm scared of spiders well, except for SPIDERMAN! *wehehe*..I always think of them as poisonous and deadly. In Philippines, kids do play with spiders actually, the non-poisonous ones, they will put them inside a matchbox, feed them then they will let them fight against each other, like a match. And about the photo, it's awesome, nice shot and good angle. Looks like a shot of a professional. Well done. Thanks for sharing your spider with us grandpa bob! *smile* ciao! =)

little spider, big web - the little fella that built a web in my tree.
I read what others said the spider was, I had no idea, so I couldn't help. It's a very cool picture of the big spider and web too. A week ago, I also had a spider encounter in a tree in my front yard. The web is cool and big, but the spider was just a little guy or gal. It was gone later that day, as it got a little windy here. I'll add a picture of the spider's web at my house.

I absolutely HATE and LOATH spiders!!!! I know it is supposed to be good if you let them live in your house, and is supposed to bring you wealth, but notice I said Supposed to that is because I have never let them stick around to see if it is true. I left you a comment on your photo, good one. The scariest expirience I have had with a spider I would have to say... I was working at the local office supply store, and turned around to get something, and there was the feel of a web line across my face. So I looked up and looked down amd there was a HUGE spider crawling down the front of my shirt..! On the outside of course. I screamed and all the employees and customers looked at me. It still makes my skin crawl. TY GP Bob.

I missed this one on the weekend, Grandpa Bob. You have far too many spiders (and hideous ones too), in your neck of the woods. Of course, up here we have the dreaded 'cottage spiders' that I've mentioned to you before. I'd love to come to Minnesota sometime, but will have to make sure that you've 'spider proofed' the area for me first.;)

I dunno what kind of spider is that. All I know is I'm scared of it. Because I saw on television how spiders can kill a person. I hate even the sight of them. And I don't wanna near with them. Small yet so terrible.
