Im on tight budget these days and have made my christmas list and have found out that It would be very hard for me to be able to buy all the gifts for all the people on my christmas list and it would be very impossible since I only have limited resources. I checked my resources and found out that I still have lots of threads left from my crochet ventures the previous years and have decided to make bags to crochet for the christmas giving. It wont cost me that much but it’s the time that it will take so much time doing those. I have already finished five small ones and have started making big ones for my house mates and there are six of them and another two for my best friends. All I said is good luck to myself, I only got one month and a few days to do it but I am just postive that I will be able to make it before new year.LOL How about you mylotters, what have you prepared for christmas gift giving? I do hope you can share it with us here. Have a nice day and happy mylotting!

Hi Zelmarq! I did prepare my Christmas list and it is still waiting for some funding so I can get to go shopping. haha.. But this time, I am very, very careful on how to budget everything and will just buy practical and inexpensive gifts for everyone in the list. I sure hope I know how to crochet because anyone would love to receive those. Good luck to your crocheting and I hope you can finish it all before New Year. Take care and have a nice day. :)

Right now I am concentrating on Birthdays, which occur before Christmas. I really am somewhat clueless. If just the right thing comes along, I will get it, usually at a discount. I have some ideas for things to make, and I am trying to figure out how to get busy and get it done. I think your crochet bags are excellent ideas, perhaps you can work on them while watching television or something. I do not have much time for handwork right now, but would love to. Good job, being resourceful and economical.

I understand about the money being tight. I am making a lot of gifts myself. I made a couple of scarfs, and I am going to try making some beauty products. I collected some bottles which I am going to decorate and filled with baths salts.

Crocheted Shawl - This is the shawl I crocheted for my grandmother's christmas present this year.
I like your crochet bags Zelmarq. I'm sure they'll be very much appreciated. I'm on a tight budget this year too so I've already made a few crocheted gifts. I've completed a shawl (pic attached) for my grandmother and a scarf for my niece. I've also been working on a photo album slideshow for my mother in law. Last year I started a Christmas album for my brother in law since he lost all his photos after his house flooded twice. I was able to find 20 years of family christmas photos and gave him an actual scrapbook and made a computer disk of all the digital photos I could find or scan. This year I added on to the first 20 years with some photos that are special to my mother in law and I'm turning it into a DVD so she can watch it on TV whenever she wants.:)

So far im only limited to bags and coin urses and some cellphone holders, I guess it would take so much time making scarves through crochet. I have seen my officemate do it and it took her so long to finish one. My bags only takes two days for it to be finished and I am nearly finishing two bags.

Get some yarn when it goes on sale at Wal Mart or your local craft store. Make scarves for everyone. You can make one in less than a day and people love them. I did that a couple years ago and everyone loved them. I had other relatives wanting me to make them one. You can also make hats to match. Most people love it when you make them something. It is so much more personal.

Hello myfan, thats the problem with me I dont like making things using yarn, I guess its really very rough for me and theres not much color that I can play with. I am from the Philippine snad we have several great colors to choose from and we are using the cannon brand here its just cheap and nice to use.

Hey Zelmarq, I love crocheting alot and I crochet more around christmas time then all year long because as you say money is tight and a lot of gifts to get. So like you I dig into the yarns and threads I have and make multiple items for family and friends. Hats, mittens, scarves, booties, placemats, coasters, dollies, throws, purses, pillow dolls, doll clothes, blankets, pillows, throw pillows, hair accessories, sweaters and other things. I try to also find good deals on yarns and threads at yard sales or rummage bins at stores. I love that bag by the way. Do you crochet by pattern or by your own design? I usually follow patterns unless I get inspired. I seriously do love that bag..do you have a pattern for it or know where I can get a pattern like it? I htink crocheting is something that needs to be passed on to the next generation of children if not it might become extinct after awhile, because nowdays everyone just rather go to a store spend a few minutes choosing something or grab on the go. It takes us longer then that to choose a pattern and the colors..lol I hope it is something that will last for a long time to come. Well, Happy Crocheting.

Thank you for your compliment my firned, I made this and I just made it by myself. I would love to give you the pattern but theproblem is that I dont have the crochet vocabulary to start with so I dont think would be able to shre it with you in written form. Maybe I can do a demo but I will have to record it and would love to share with you the video when I get the chance.

Everyone I know loves when I give them crocheted items! I have to make 2 stockings for my husbands kids - he'd like them all to look the same. They only take a day or so to do, but I'm running out of time!!!

I have the same problem with lack of money to buy Christmas presents. I have to buy presents for 30 people, as my hubbys family is large. Your idea of making crochet bags is great. Many people appreciate homemade gifts. I know it is time consuming for you, but it is better than wasting your life hanging around bars. Probably you can listen to music whilst doing this crochet. Good Luck to you. I might make homemade cookies for some people for Christmas gifts.

Wow, you know how to crochet a bag? Actually when I was in my high school years I studied how to make a crochet and after many years I have forgotten it because I have not practice it. Now, I want to make crochet things too. I want to make stuff out of crochet. Can you give me an advice where to get patterns and somehow learn back how to do it? I am very much interested to learn now.

I made this bag in the picture and I just made my own pattern for this bag. You can make a pattern of your won and dont have to do the pattern that is provided online, i dont know how to use these patterns on line and its just great that I can use my imagination.

Christmas is the only time of the year that i really get to splurge on gifts. The dearer the person is to me the more effort and sometimes cost i would be spending on the gift. It's not the cost really that matters but the thought and effort that I put into in looking for gifts that they would really like and that would really be useful for them. What you are doing is actually very good and I even envy you for such creativity and ability to make gifts. The effort and love that you would be stitching into each thread will surely be appreciated and warm the hearts of the people who will be receiving them. enjoy!

Wow, thats very good for you to spurge on this time of the year. Thats also good that you have funds for that. Last year, I bought all the gifts coz I have enough resources but this year I will have to be more resources and aviled on what I have to give and the crochet making is whats making me busy. I have made three uncompleted projects and Iam hoping to finish it before the season ends.

Until the last few years, I would make gifts for 15 to 20 people every year. They didn't want store-bought from me, they wanted handmade! I will be making some hand-stitched journals and photo albums... paper is CHEAP, and books are a nice gift for everyone. You can use your thread to stitch them, as well! I will make the covers beautiful with collage or bits of special fabric. You could crochet the covers, slide in the book board, and stitch the covers to the first and last signatures, or make a spine piece for the edge. http://www.altered-book.com/coptic-binding.html To finish them, make a bookmark of fine crochet, maybe using beads. That would make it perfect and very special!

Thank you so much for your suggestions and I hope you can make lots of stished journals, Im sure you are a real expert when in comes to making them. Have a nice day and happy mylotting.

The thing about being crafty is, we can start right after this Christmas and have them for NEXT Christmas!lol! I have a left hand that doesn't work very well, and I can do these books... I'm sure you could! And they can be personalized in so many different ways! I made my husband a notepad to keep by his computer. Whenever someone I know is taking a trip, I print out maps and pictures of where they're going and use them to decorate a photo album for the pics they take while they're away. Everyone likes a good book!

I love to make things for people for Christmas! I am going to be meeting my future mother in law at Christmas this year and am very nervous about it. The one thing that she could come up with as a possible Christmas gift that she might like was slippers, so I searched high and low until I found a pair that I liked enough to bother making. I would love to show you the photo, but I don't know if I can attach it to my answer or not. I'll try though. I also make scarves and bags, and even sweaters to give as gifts and there's nothing at all wrong with that. I think such gifts mean a lot more than something that you simply went out and bought.
