FINALLY !! Some GREAT family news !

Well in the past there has been nothing but health issues in my family. Well this evening I recieved a call from The University Of Michigan. It seems that my wife Debbie is a perfect match for a bone marrow transplant for her brother. This was much needed news and great that it came when it did as we all were getting very very stressed recently. Now we wait for the University to relay this info to her brothers Dr then they will contact us soon with the info for when the donor surgery wetc takes place. I would love to go to Michigan again but due to dads health my wife will be going alone. I just wanted to share this news with all my friends. I wish to than all for the prayers and thoughs and concern when I started the discussion about her being tested to see of she was a match. This is great news. F I N A L L Y !!!

Obviously Grandma Deb has given this the utmost consideration and this is what she wants to do. Therefore I
need to tell you I am very happy for everyone involved. Congratulations!!! Being a caregiver also I wish I was living near by so I could sit with dear ol' dad. I'm sorry to see Grandma Deb go through this without you there. Is there such a thing as restbite for a few days? I know they have it in some parts of the world. Never the less you have my blessings and I promise to pray for you all. A promise is a promise...

I am not going to bust my butt trying to go. I will be fine here and Deb will make it through. She just has the flight is all. She wants to see her brother and sister badly so that keeps her not thinking too much about going alone. Thanks for the blessing and prayers. Bunches.

I will have you all in my prayers. I have been to the University of Michigan Hospital, its one of the best in the states. I feel so sorry that your wife will have to make the trip there by herself. Isn't there someone close by, that can stay with your dad so she doesn't have to go thru all that by herself. Take care and I hope everything works out ok.

What city? I grew up in Dearborn Heights. I have a brother in Belleville and an Aunt in Flat Rock and another relative in Taylor. Thanks this was some much needed news.

Yeah. It's superb. With all that's been on our plates I had somewhat forgotten about the test results pending. So the call shocked yet surprised me. Thanks for all your support and love also.

worry about me going with. It needs to be done and not going to
stress ourselves trying to worry about a sitter etc for dad.

I was about to go to bed when I saw your discussion, & I just had to respond.
I think this is absolutely wonderful news.
If I were your wife, I would be honoured that I could help a brother who is very ill with cancer.
I guess it wont be easy for her, but your wife is obviously strong willed.
The human spirit will prevail, & your brother in law will recover.

HAHAHA! I went to bed right after posting it. Well not to bed really, I sat up talking with the wife. But I logged off right after posting this. She was starting to feel bad because she hadn't seen him in 4 years or more. She was feeling a bit guilty that he would pass away before she got to see him again. Now she may be the one that saves his life. Amazing how things can change suddenly. Thanks bunches.

We are hoping after the marrow donation that it brings him back to some type of normalcy in his life. he has been in and out of the hospital and comas for a few months. Thanks.

AWESOME Grandpa.. I am so happy your wife was a match. I am sure she is ecstatic being able to help her brother. As you know, you and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers, I I wish that everything goes smoothly with the donor surgery. Congrats Grandpa on the good news.

Oh man did we need something good to occur in and or around our lives. It was getting hard to make it through the days recently. This was a much needed respite from the stress and all. Thanks bunches.

We almost lost her brother two weeks ago. He was called last night with the news as well. Thing is he is getting out of the hospital today and sent home until further notice. So he has improved greatly in the past 2 weeks also. Thanks for the continued prayers.

Hi Grandpa Bob,
Wow, this is such amazingly great news. What your wife's done, and is about to do, is such a special gift. I'm sure her brother will be deeply touched and very grateful, to have this chance. She's a very brave and strong woman, as well. Is there another family member who can go with her, when she has this done? I also know it won't be easy, and will keep 'both' of them, in my thoughts and prayers. Please keep us informed here, as to any new developments. Take Care.

We are not going to worry anymore about her goping alone. We're both fine with it. We just want this over and hope that it is of great help to save his life at this point. So for now she is going alone. When she goes is the next mystery to be solved. HAHAHAHA! Thanks bunches also for everything in the past few months.

Like I've already mentioned, she's a very brave woman. If it were me, I'd want someone with me, but would in the end, if 'push came to shove' go by myself, if absolutely necessary. What a miracle it'll be if she's able to save his life, in this way. It's already wonderful that she's a match. Do you think it'll take place before Christmas, and/or do you know how long she'll be away? You're very welcome, once again, Grandpa Bob. I value your friendship.:)

I know you all must feel relieved after getting that call and your wife must feel very blessed to be able to help her brother and he too must feel grateful for her. Wow--that really is great news GRANDPA BOB and yes, it's about time you had some good news and can be just a tad less stressed out. Gee, though what does a bone marrow transplant mean exactly? What I know of this procedure is not, as you said, a picnic, but I am pretty sure that it is done when you are knocked out. The marrow is extracted by means of a very large needle into your hip bone. It is given to a recipient who has had all of his immune cells killed out, so that it will not be rejected.

that is a great news I am happy for you all. What a great thing she is doing and I wish them both all the best. Few ywars ago when I just turned 18 a man from my country needed bone marrow transplant and he had no relatives in Australia so in the Macedonian Community news paper there was a plea to anyone that would like to be testet (as the chances a better for someone from your race or whatever to be compatible) I went and had some blood taken but I wasnt a match. They asked me if I would help another peron and I said yes. I didnt hear anything for 4 years than when I was pregnant they called to ask if I wanted to do it as there was a young girl to whom I was a perfect match. I could not do it as I was 4 monts pregnant and I belive they took me off the list because 5 years later they have not called again.

They stated that my wifes test results will be in their data bank in case she wishes to donate again to others as well. I can't do this as I have too many health problems. But this news was greatly needed and welcomed.
