I Need Your Opinions Please...

My Quilts... - My Quilts...

Ok, I need some personal opinions on something. There is a picture below of several quilts I've made. The first picture with the bird is done all in 2" squares and is the kind I first learned to make. The one next to it is a new kind I've been trying. It has quilt blocks made up of 2" squares and a cross stitch picture in the center. The bottom two pictures is a quilt I found today that I did and forgot about. It has alternating white squares and christmas design squares with the cross stitch angel in the center. The angel even has little beads on the tree and her skirt. My question is which do you like better? With the original kind I'm not able to get much detail but with the cross stitch centered picture I can do a really nice picture and then quilt around it. So, give me your opinions and I promise my feelings won't be hurt :) MERRY CHRISTMAS!! **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

They are all absolutely gorgeous! But if I had to make a choice, I would choose the one at the top right of the picture...the one with the cross stitch picture in the center. It's so eye catching, and so beautiful. You definitely have a talent hon.

Thanks for the closeup pictures. I actually believe that "End of the Trail" besides being this picture, is a bronze by Remington, and is on display, or used to be, at The Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City.

I like them all. If I had to pick one, it would be the one on the top right with the horse in the middle. I think that one is pretty cool. I've never quilted although I've wanted to. I don't think I have the patience for it so I stick with crocheting.

I do cross stitch, but it's been a while. What I love about doing any kind of needle work is that you can't eat while you're doing it, so it's great to do while watching tv!

I mostly stick with the medium sized ones although I have done a few large ones as well. The medium ones tend to hold my attention long enough with making me bored. I taught myself to cross stitch and quilt. It isn't really hard if you take it slow. Thank you for your thoughts. MERRY CHRISTMAS!! **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

If i was giving to a man, I would definitely get the one on the top right - men usually don't get into quilts because they are too feminine, I like the simplicity of the dove, but too many colors for me. The Christmas one with the cross-stitch angel is the one i would go for personally. I love conted x-stitch and with beads...it must be gorgeous. You go...they are all great.

I did one for my Dad last year and it was a Farmall tractor (he has 6 of them). I did it in the same way as the dove but now I would love to do it in cross stitch and like the angel one. I think he'd go wild over it just like he did for the first one. The only drawback to the cross stitch quilts is that they can't be washed as much as a regular quilt can. You can still wash them but just not constantly. Thank you for your thoughts. MERRY CHRISTMAS!! **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

Actually I haven't gotten any finished like this yet. I just found the angel one today and the others are just tops...I haven't put batting or a backing on them yet. Thank you for your thoughts. MERRY CHRISTMAS!! **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

I like the one with the cross stitch in the center- the bottom one. They are all beautiful, but that one seems to really have a focal point that draws your eyes. At the same time, the rest of it isn't so busy as to make it seem 'cluttered' for lack of a better word. I would love to be able to do such precise work. I am practicing, maybe I'll get there.

By all means, keep practicing. I started cross stitching in '91 and quilting in 2001. I'm somewhat of a perfectionist so I just about drive myself nuts with it but I also taught myself both things so I only have me to blame. Seriously, I could never give up either one. Thank you for your thoughts. MERRY CHRISTMAS!! **AT PEACE WITHIN** ~~STAND STRONG IN YOUR BELIEFS~~

They are all beautiful and I wish I had the patience to do that sort of thing. If I had to pick just one, it would be the first one, with the dove.

My favourite is the one top right. But they are all lovely. I like the sound of the beads too, that would make it pretty unique. How do you get the time to do these things?

I think they are all beautiful. I am a cross stitcher, but I always have done smallish projects because I just don't have the attention span to do a larger one - I get bored... I think you got some nice detail with the one that is just quilted, but what you might try doing is learning how to do some of the curves I've seen done on the quilting shows if you want to get more detail. What I've seen in those shows they do the curves, stitch them together and treat them as single blocks. http://web.hgtv.com/hgtv/web/searchResults/1,8213,,FF.html?searchString=quilting+curves&searchType=Aggregate

I've done some large ones but I have to really push myself to get them done...just b/c they take so long. I like the medium size ones b/c they usually have good details but don't take forever to do. I tried doing different shapes in my quilting but I feel most comfortable with squares I guess b/c of my cross stitching LOL Thank you though for the link. Thank you for your thoughts. My favorite is the second one (black and white with the indian and horse in the middle. I love native american stuff like that. They are all very beautiful and you are one very patient person to be able to sit and do this type of work.

I absolutely LOVE the cross-stitch one. That is by far my favorite. I'm biased, though, because I do cross stitch and wish I could do work that nice! LOL They are all beautiful, but I really like the cross-stitched one.

I like the first one because it really pops out and you can really see what it is without having to get up close.

I like them all, but the cross stitch ones have more detail. A lot of work in those. I have always wanted to learn how to quilt. Maybe I should take the time to learn.

The bird quilt stands out but that may be just becaiuse of the bright colours. The angel with the beads on her skirt sounds beautiful-I only wish I could see it more clearly! You are very talented and I hope you continue with your quilt making! Merry Christmas/.

I liked them all and which I like best is different for different reasons..the first is great.. I think besides being wonderful for anyone for say, a gift, this would be the best if you are thinking of selling the quilt, people tend not to value the crosstitch work correctly and you'll be better off with the work-time to profit made ratio doing the first one. At the same time, if you were to give it to anyone who knew how long those inserts took you to make..we'd just pass out to show our appreciation lol. So for that reason, I LIKE the second ones better, they are a reflection of two different crafts.. I can whip out another whole quilt in the time it took you (and I'm achingly slow at crosstitch so definitely me lol) to do the insert. For that reason, I would find these vastly more valuable gifts. When it comes to quilts my very favorites are the simple antique patchwork patterns done well and any embellishments workd in individual pieces. So there you have it, my unvarnished opinion.. I am impressed too, all are beautiful and well done.. You do lovely work, keep it up, if you run out of space to keep them, let me know lol, I'd like to have a few you don't want to keep.
