I made a mistake last week and it was delicious.

I decided that I was going to make meatloaf. I put the raw meat, and an egg, and some bread crumbs from some home made bread that got a little old. I used up the rest of the spaghetti sauce, and, being a little lazy, I was going to use my frozen chopped peppers and onions. I grabbed the bag, and dumped in about a cup. It was an asparagus stir fry combo, not peppers and onions. The veggies had already been in contact with the raw meat and egg, so I could either pick it all out and throw it away, or mix it in. I mixed it in and it was sooo good. I plan to make that mistake again.!

It's great how we can accidently or deliberately learn new recipes & taste sensations. I love meatloaf. I wouldn't ordinarily think of putting an asparagus stir fry combo in, but there you are, it worked. Yummy!

I think folding it in frozen made the texture really good, as well.

It did have a marvelous texture, as the veggies were still large pieces. They were too frozen when I started, and they did not mush.

Hmm.. that sounds really interesting! I love asparagus and I love meatloaf but I'm not sure about the two together. Maybe one day I'll have to "accidentally" make a mistake and try it out. My husband would not be happy with me but atleast he would eat his veggies!

This is called asparagus stir fry blend, and I get it at WalMart. It also had pepper strips and other nice things. These blends are terrific, colorful, and economical.

My mistakes are usually using cinamon instead of Old Bay seasoning. Or something like that - grabbing the wrong spice... Not as good of a turnout as yours!

That actually sounds delicious to me! I love it when I serendipitously discover something great like this don't you? I did the same with worchestire sauce once. I grabbed it rather than A1 when I was eating a hamburger. Now, I always use the worchestire sauce!

Ah, yes the Worcestershire sauce, the universal seasoning. I have forgotten how good it is.

Ah you invented a new recipe. That seems like a good idea, freezing the peppers and onions. I should try that some time. I gather you shop at Safeway, and that it was not only the asparagus but the other ingredients that gsve it that unique flavor. I usually get the one withour the asparagus, the regular kind, as I do not care for the one with asparagus. I do not like it with other vegetables, but sometimes they run out of the regular kind that this would be a sneaky way to give vegetables to my vegetable hating husnband. This sounds like sometime I could try, if we did not use all the spaghetti sauce previously. I wonder if it works with ordindary tomato sauce.

We no longer have Safeway stores in our area, they are Homeland, and my small town does not have one. I shop at Walmart and Dillons which is part of a chain called Krogers. They have lots of different vegetable blends, in the store brands, so they are cheaper. Yes, the plain tomato sauce would also work. I just hated to waste food and so used the spaghetti sauce.

I never would have thought of that but it sure sounds delicious! With the price of asparagus that would be a good way to make it go further. I think I'll try it as soon as I get rid of my pork and saurkraut leftovers. Annie

That sounds good as well. I had lunch at a German (Mennonite style) restaurant today. They make a good kraut salad.

I wouldn't have thrown it away either. I would have been like you mix it up and hope for the best. I made meatloaf the other day too. It is one of my husbands favorite meals. I add chunky salsa to my mix instead of chopping up veggies and using tomato sauce.

Sometimes the cooking mistakes can bring to a wonderful taste. My mother cooked fried fish for me but when she made the sauce, she put chili sauce instead of the ketchup.Because they are red and the lable on bottles are not very clear. But the chili sauce matched the fried fish.

I think it is not a mistake but a good idea. My cooking is very bad and I always make tasteless food when I follow up the cookbook. But as a single, i have to enter the kitchen by myself. In order to make delicious food, I usually try many ways to cook by my mine though.

Oh yum!! That sounds really, really good! I've never thought about putting veggies in meatloaf. For sure wouldn't have thought asperagus in with the meatloaf, but thinking about it it sounds quite good. Will have to try that. Good use of spaghetti sauce too. Hmmmm, think I'm going to have to serve meatloaf tonight lol, it's one of my families favorites. Thanks for sharing!

oh wow! This sounds great. Don't you love it when mistakes make something great anyway? Several years ago, my daughter was helping me cook dinner and I asked her to grab a carton of sour cream out of the fridge and put it into the chicken that I was cooking to make a rice casserole. She grabbed cream cheese by mistake and had it melted into it before I saw her. We went ahead and added the sour cream as well, and now that recipe has become one of our favorites.

I love meatloaf and so does my entire family. I have a few different receipes that I like to make. You have brought meatloaf to a whole new level and I will have to do my best to recreate your masterpiece! Maybe tonight as I just realized I have everything I need; at least i think so.
