When I was in college I had 2 pot a day coffee habit, as it was the only way to stay awake to study. Now I have been working hard to avoid drinking any drinks with caffeine. Its not easy, as there days I need to stay awake for long hours. Do you need caffeine to start the day? If so, how much caffeine?

No, I need cup of water or green tea to start my day. I actually like to drink coffee at night, espeially if I have to do something that I havent accomplished during the day. Why are You avoiding caffeine? Some of it is good for you.

My doctor told me to avoid caffeine. I was in the hospital this year, so I'm listening to him. People should follow their doctors advice.

I used to drink 2 cups before work and then another one during the morning hours at work and another cup late in the afternoon at work. One of my New Year's resolutions was to cut back on caffeine. I have been successful in doing this. I now have a cup of hot tea upon awakening (it is decaf) and drink water all through the day. I find that I actually feel so much better! I thought I would be lethargic without the caffeine but I feel more energized for some reason! I love the ice cold water!

Heck yes! Not only to start the day, but all day long! I don't drink coffee, but begin with a couple of diet cokes. When I get tired of the carbonation, I switch to iced tea. Sometimes I'll throw in a chocolate instant breakfast in the morning, but I can not imagine a day with out caffeine! When I became "with child" I totally de-caffeinated myself. As I recall, it was not that difficult, but the kids are now 17 and 20, so I can drink what I please :)

My doctor said that if I drink one coke a day, I'll be fine. That's assuming my diet is not junk food, which it isn't. I like coke, and it helps me wake up, it refreshes me, and it does help ward off headaches. I know some would call that the reason for headaches, but I've been caffeine free and I've been caffeine 'with' (lol). Either way I'm going to get headaches when I get them, so one a day is a perfect balance for me.

i do not know "need" is the right word, but yes i do drink two pots of coffee each day when i wake up and go to work. i know that i tried last year to see if i can manage without coffee. it was hard, i was hiper active most of the time without caffeine, so yes i guess my body got addicted. i really can not go to sleep at night if i do not drink a cup of coffee, it calms me down.

Most days I can deal with the drowsiness, so I don't need the caffeine boost everyday like some people. However there are times when I do need that little extra push. Those days when I do need the coffee, I usually only drink one tall cup of it, then I am good to go. I don't see how you could have drank two whole pots of coffee every day! I couldn't finish one pot by myself, let alone attempt two!
