Or is it a dying art? Have you passed the skill on to anyone?

I love to crochet and have been doing it for many years now. I also have a small business selling my crochet creations. It's heaps of fun and you can make what ever you want. I would love to have a daughter to teach her! :)

I like to crochet but don't think I'm so good as to sell. I make gifts for people and crochet jewlery too.

I know how to crochet because this was something we were taught in school in Basic Education. But I just let it go when the course ended. I was programmed to be afraid of the hook. I remember using initially, a big, yellow, plastic hook. I didn't like using it but it was safe. The thin stainless steel one was really good to use but I had to keep putting the cover back on. My cousin had an accident with the hook. She punctured her thigh with it. It was horrible. Crocheting is something like tatting and quilting and can be used again in more modern designs. I really wish I had more time to work on them. The possibilities are endless. I just wonder if the young ones can look up from their computer games to pick up the crochet hook or the shuttle and learn crocheting or tatting. But I am aware that there are some women who have formed quilting groups. Maybe there are also those who have formed crocheting or tatting groups. I am confident that there will always be some women or men who will not allow the arts of crocheting, tatting and quilting to die. Those who are into alternative education must be trying to keep the arts alive. Not every child is cut to be a cyberkid.

It isn't dying with me. I love to crochet and knit. I have gained thousands of very useful things, shawls, scarves, sweaters, tops, dresses, coats, tablecloths. I usually have 20-30 projects going at all times and have been doing it since I was a child. I sell them and give them as presents. For me it is relaxing, fun, interesting, challenging, creative, and inspiring. Can't think of a greater more useful thing to do with my minimal down time. I passed it onto my Daughter and she is more talented than I am. It took me years to get her interested and now she is addicted like I am.

I learned when I was a child, I wanted to learn because I liked the idea of making something, and was not naturally artistic, so this seemed like a good compromise. Not to say it is not creative, but it is not necessary to be, as you can follow a pattern. However I do not have a whole lot of patience for it. The last time I tried to make an afghan, it didn't even get to be big enough to be a scarf. Now I would need to consult a book in order to remember how to do all the stitches. I would love to make something for my niece, but I doubt my sister would want me to! :)

i also crochet and knit but its hard to say which is better because knitting to me seems limited and you need lik 6 different types of needs to make different things while with crocheting you only need a hook and a marker(string). but i knitting is useful for making sock and scarfs, but that is all i end up knitting.i usually crochet everything else, hats, belts, arm bands, stuffed animals, clothing, ect. my friend courtney wanted to learn how to knit and i taught her but she is too stubborn to learn different tactics to knitting like purling, sock making, decreasing, increasing. so all she knows how to do is knit scarves. she also prefers the look of knitting to crochet as i prefer the crochet look to knitting but when you think about it, its all an old lady hobby:)

I absolutely love crocheting. I come from a very long line of crocheters. Crocheting is in my blood..lol My mom taught me when I was twelve to crochet and knit. I worked hard at it till I got really good and one end of my potholder didn't look sizes small then the other end. Now I can basically crochet anything I want. I also like to make dollies with the thread. I have tried to pass the skill on to others anyone who wanted to try their hand at it even thought of starting a class up about it but hubby said no he wouldn't feel comfortable in a house full of woman with knitting needles and hooks..lol I crochet all the time I even sell my crafts I make and I love giving crocheted gifts to others because it is a gift from my heart and it makes me feel good when they like and appreciate it. Is it a dying art? Not if we don't let it, but with the way things are nowdays it seems a kid rather have a phone, video game or a keybord in their hands then a crochet hook or a knitting needle. I bought my little sister a starter kit for Christmas she is only six but it is a start. Well, Happy crafting.

Yes I can crochet, nothing too technical, just the basic chain and single and double...it is the one thing my mother taught me, I have tried to teach my neices, but I don't think I caught them young enough, because they thought I was insane to even suggest such a hobby!! So I hope I have a little girl next to pass it on.I even made the beanie my son came home in, while I was in the hospital recovering from his birth.I still have it,4 1/2 years later :)

Hi I was taught to crochet a blanket when I was expecting my first child. Ever since then when anyone is expecting a baby out comes the crochet hook, but I have never developed it from there. Have taught both my daughters and they have each crocheted a blanket for themselves. I find wool very expensive to buy so go round the charity shops and pick up odd balls in pastel baby colours whenever I see them. I find it really relaxing.

I think more people are crocheting since they have come up with more modern hip patterns. I wanted to teach my daughter but she's not interested in crafts.
