Grapes, Apples, Persimmons.. these are some fruits where the skin is edible. When you eat such fruits, do you eat the skin? Or do you peel off the skin before you eat it? Unless the skin is too tough to be chewed, I eat the skin with the fruit. Skins are supposedly to be good for health. How about you, friends? Do you peel off the skin when eating fruits?

Hello Whyaskq, If the fruit has an edible skin, then I'll usually wash it well, then eat the skin. As I recall, the bulk of the nutritional value is either at the core, or near/in the skins of many fruits & veggies. Of course, I always make a point to avoid the skins of a pineapple. Ouch!!!!

Don't forget Kiwis!!! You can eat the skin if you want to, but it will leave your tongue feeling all numb and weird for a week!!!

I guess I'm in the majority here when I say that I usually eat the skin if its edible. I actually like the taste of most fruits with the skin. You're right when you say that the skins are good for health because they usually contain all the vitamins.

Personally, if the skin is edible, I eat it. Many of the vitamins in those fruits are also in the skin. Granted my kids all like the skin peeled off of their apples... lol can you imagine having to peel a bunch of grapes? No thanks! LOL

I haven't eaten any persimmon yet, but for grapes and apples, I usually eat it with skin on. I make sure I wash it well before eating it of course. Very seldom do I peel them before eating.

I always eat the skin, for me the skin is the tastiest, best part of the fruit, it is the true roughage that our bodies need to push things through! I eat the skin on all fruits apart from bananas and oranges obviously. But kiwis I will eat the fur too! I know I am crazy mind you I am lazy and rather eat it all rather than waste time peeling, but I always wash the fruit first because of the chemicals and dirt etc.

I ever tried and ended up I used a spoon to scrap the fruit. Doesn't the fur irritate the throat?

If it's edible skin, I usually eat it. The main reason being that I am lazy to peel:P

the skin of fruits like apple, grapes, pears actually has the fruit's nutrients & vitamins so it is always better to eat the skin. however, for my 2-year old daughter and 5-yr old son, i prefer to peel it off before letting them eat it because i am afraid that the skin might have germicides from where it was picked/planted. maybe, eventually, i will let them eat the skin, when they're bigger and no longer that prone to sickness.... oh but will there ever be such a time?

Sure there will be such a time :) Another few years, let them eat to help them build the immunity to strengthen their stomach.

Hi, I usually peel off the fruit skin before I eat especially the imported fruit. My children don't like fruit with skin at all. So I have to feel off the skin before I give it to them.

i have read somewhere that it is best if you eat the fruits (like apple, grapes etc) with the skin on. the nutrient of the fruits is mostly found in the skin. if you are concern about the "germs" in those fruits that cannot be washed off by water, be content in thinking that the nutrients in those skin will help you fight them off.

I have read so long ago that apple skin was the richest part in vitamins of all the apple. My father told me of a story that a doctor was asked the same question and his response was to put the apple in dirt and then eat it with its skin stating that there is more value in unpealed dirty apple than in a clean pealed one. While this maybe true I still prefer to wash my apple anpealed before eating it. The same goes for grapes and other berries as I cannot see how you can peal their skin off and eat them there creating a berryfull mess.

Unless it an orange or a grape fruit or a mellon I eat the skin. That's what provides bit of crunch, and there are always good nutrients in the skin.
