Just got back from the doctor

I have to renew my disability every six months, though I have thyroid problems, diabetes, and fibromyalgia, the government will not keep me permanent disability so I have to renew every six months. I walked to the doctor's office which is okay it really is just up the street, but then I had to walk to the welfare office from their to put the form in. I am so poor I cannot even afford bus fare. It is a long walk and I have to stop several times because my back gets to sore to continue on. I did though I made it there and back, but now my whole body is riddled in pain and I have to go to bed for awhile. Are there other people out there who have trouble getting disability, or have trouble walking like me?

I can understand why the government check up on people because of the fact that so many try and claim when they do not need to, but from the sounds of it you are one that needs to be given it permanently because it sounds like you go through the mill to have to renew it. I cannot believe that you had to go through all that and that you could not even get transport to where you had to go, it makes me mad. I do have problems with walking and standing for long periods of time, but not on a daily basis just every so often, it is certainly nothing to what you go through, and I do not need no disability or anything, mine is just something that I put up with. Comes from having four children!!

I can answer yes to both counts on this. You walked a lot farther then I could have. I think you should give yourself a pat on the back for doing all that. I know how difficult it is. Like you I have fibro along with a ton of other problems including spinal stenosis, degenerative disc and joint disease, sciatica and arthritis. That doesn't even include other issues. So believe me I understand over doing and paying for it afterwards. You force yourself to do things you know have to be done, not like you can afford to have someone else do it and then you are in major pain for days afterwards. I am also having trouble getting disability. We don't have temporary disability here. I wish we did. It's either all or nothing. They admit that I'm disabled but they are saying I'm not disabled enough. I just filled out the paper work for an appeal and that is so depressing. You have to concentrate on all you can't do. You know most days I try to concentrate on what I can do to try and get through but on this you have go by what you can't do. How you are limited and such. So filling all that out (which took hours due to having to stop due to pain issues) really brought me down and then knowing it can take so long to get approved does not help. I hope things get better for you soon. Hopefully they will realize you need to have it on a permanent basis and get you on it.

I agree it does suck. The worst part is after all this more then likely they will admit I'm disabled and give it to me. They did the same with my sister. It took her four years and then they said she'd been disabled since before she even applied. They just like to make you jump through hoops and push your buttons. Thank you for best response. I appreciate it. It was nice to see in my box this morning. Good luck and I hope everything comes through for you.

Unfortunately, being on Disability is like this. Even if a person is on SSI or SSD it is cruel like this. I have a lot of Health issues myself, but it was becoming such a chore to keep my SSD that I chose to return to work, and hope for the Best. Since I am married, they always kept on using my husbands income as well to base how much I could get as well. I just wish those who really need the help could get it, and that they could do more for them as well. Don't they have reduced passes or something there for people on Disability? I know they do here. Wishing you the best.

there is nothing here for disability except a parking spot and a seat on a bus, if you can get it.

I have DDD which affects me when sitting in the same postion for a long time like driving or computing. It does bother me if I walk a LONG ways at one time though but that would be a lot more than I would want to walk anyhow. So no problem really walking. (yet) I am not any type of disability and not sure if I could get on it. Now as far as your walking, the more you walk each day the better it may get for you as far as being able to tolerate it. it is just that you may not be used to walking is why it hurts so much as well. Just how I feel. Thanks and good luck as well in everything. HAPP[Y POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I’m sorry to hear about your medical conditions- It makes me realize just how lucky I am. I’m not disabled. My dad is disabled – he is almost completely deaf and has a very bad back. He has worked many many years- but retired and went on disability for the medical insurance – just until soc security starts for him. He doesn’t have to keep recertifying. I’m really sorry to hear of your pain as well- hope you were able to rest up and feel better!

I have a ways to go before retiring, I can retire at 60 or at 65 but people say you get next to nothing if you retire at 60 so I really don't know what I will do but that is still 7 years away.

That is rediculous that you have been diagnosed with all of these symptoms and they still make you go back and get re-evaluated every 6 months. Until they find a cure for all of these things, I really do not see the purpose for it. It is not like the symptoms are just going to go away. It is awful that you have to walk there. It looks like they would send a social worker to your home to see you since you are disabled. My mom just recently went on disability in the past year because she has had two back surgeries. She still has to drive herself around to places sometimes if my step-dad is not home to take her or my aunt that lives next door to her, which is her sister. She used to have a very hard time walking and stays in alot of pain also.

I know it is crazy but on fortunately that is the way it is. Government contends that it is spending too much money now on health care and health care services.

I am sorry you had to go through such a ordeal winterose. I know how it feels not having a vechicle or money for gas so I can be took somewhere by someone else. Money been tight lately since hubby just now starting back to work slowly as he is getting a few jobs here and there. We are trying to catch up on some bills and pay back what we borrowed. I am sorry they make you go through that all the time. It isn't like one day you'll wake up cured one morning although it would be a blessing it is was to happen but to be realistic I just wish you didn't have to torture your body over something like that when they know you are the same now as you were 6 months ago if not worse. I wish they had medical transportation there where you live.

I feel really soo much for your such condition and at the same i feel proud tht my friend is managing all this quite well becsuse most of the pepoles who got a littele bit of disability or some sickness are get on a side and say world is not for us we are now different and cant live regular life. Keep going on and try to avoid traveling alone because we cant live our life alone we ned partners in shape of good friends, family or community. I want to share one more thing as in my country if someone got such problems my youth, me myself and all of my youg generation will go ahed themselves and help the old pepoles why young generation in west dont try to look after their old parents.

My daughter has had so much pain and did some research online. She went to her doctor, a pain managment doctor and finally to a neurologist. She of course did not like the outcome but was relieved that it was nothing serious like cancer or anything that required surgery. She has fibromyalgia also and she is in pain so many days. What medication do you take for yours? She takes lyrica, not sure if that is the correct spelling. She can not take it during the day only at night time because of some of the side effects. So sorry that there is no way that the government can't give you some type of token for a bus or that they don't have some type of ride to take people places like that free of charge. Is there not anyone close by to take you next time you have to go? Having to go every 6 months is not good either, a disability is just that, you are disabled, should have you on permanent disability. Because of seeing what my daughter goes through I can sure testify to the pain you go through from the fibromyalgia.

winterose I am on social security and I suppose if I pushed it I could get ssi but hate to do it for all the paperwork and crap involved. I have a bad leg and now since two years ago have a bad left arm. walking is not any fun for me as I wear orthopedic shoes with a brace on my left leg. I broke my shoulder two years ago and they had to p;ut in a shoulder joint replacement. even with all the physical therapy I did not get the complete use of my left arm back.so I do have trouble walking too. I tire easily after a block or two. I also have diabetes. type two. since I was in my fifthies.

Please don't think off. I am not mean that you should been looked down on. I am saying the words that comes out of my heart. Please receive my true wish for you.

I am so sorry you have to renew the disability claim every 6 months.I know that can be a pain in the butt!!!My friend has been trying to get on SSI for almost 3 years now.I know some people do not need the benfits but I know my friend is really sick and disabled.By the sound of your health problems I believe you need the benfits.I am not going to name names but I have a few friends who get the benfits and I don't believe they need it as much as they say they do.They hardly ever even half to go and renew any claims. It just seems so unfair that some people have it so easy with the SSI department and other people like you and my friend have a hard time getting the benfits or getting to keep them.If I lived closer to you I would have took you my self to keep you from the pain of walking.I feel bad for someone who really needs the help.I am glad you have that ordeal over with at least for 6 months.Just take time and rest.Wishing you better health.Hugs....

I am perfectly well and plays hardcourt tennis pretty hard. But that doesn't mean I don't feel for you. Last Christmas break, I was asked to come home to take care of my ailing grandfather. His body is fast deteriorating and each day, he would drag his body just to walk a few feet around our house. So I have to accompany my grandfather everywhere he goes. It was a sacrfice for me. But seeing my grandpa grimace makes me wonder how much he suffers more than my little sacrifice. I am away from my grandpa these days because I went to the United States and he is left in the Philippines. I received recent news that half of his body does not anymore move. I am not sure if that is halfparalysis alreay. But it was a sad news indeed. So I guess, I am kind of reminded of my grandpa with your sharing. I feel for you lady. And I hope you can go well along with your condition. Keep some optimism up. I know that despite our sorry conditions, I have high hopes that we can still find meaning in our lives in the people we love, and the things we love most doing. My prayers.

nope. not me. i love walking and i try to walk at least 30 minutes a day just to be able to have at least an exercise a day. i know that is not enough but it is a good start and a good maintenance for someone like me who has no enough time to sleep and is barely seen at home because of my work. i love walking and i guess its the best exercise and its free. i guess you have trouble walking because of your sickness. Im glad though you made it to and back without having much of a trouble.

I had trouble getting permanent disability, until I prayed and put it in God's hands. I stop worrying about it, because it was not doing me any good anyway. I have been very poor at times too, but I try my best to do the best I can with what I have. I know that trouble will not last always and if I hang in there, God will surely bless me. People where telling me to get a lawyer and lie about this and that. But I knew that if it was God's will, I would not need a lawyer, nor would I need to lie about anything. Put your hope in God and stand strong.

unlike you I do not have any trouble with walking, it is my greatest pleasure to go for a walk by the river which is down the lane from where I live. It must be awful for you not to be able to move around freely, hope things don't get any worse for you. I will keep you in my prayers
