Attatched is a photo of 2 wooden flower boxes I bought at a local auction 4-10-2008 for a winning bid of just $4 total. They measure 20 inches long, 9 inches wide and 7 inches deep. I plan on adding a clear coat of varnish to give them a nice shine. I will use them both on my front deck this spring when it gets warmer. One will have wave petunias planted in them. The other will have pansies I think in them. I think they look great. And for just $4 total the price can't be beat. Do you have any flower boxes? What do you plant in them each year? I want to find an old fashioned steel wheeled wheelbarrow to use as a planter some day. I have an old washing machine and also am thinking of using the tub from it as an undergorund planter maybe.

Love the flower boxes and what a steal! Gotta love auctions when you have the money to go. I only have 2 flowerboxes and they are the fake terra cotta ones..plastic but haven't planted anything in them in years. Waiting to get the end of the drive done on both sides so then I can set them out and add some color to the end of my drive instead of the standard ugly culvert. As for the steel-wheeled barrel, your not getting mine. I snagged one out of someone's garbage several years ago and now it seems e1 wants to buy it from me. Always getting ppl stopping in while I'm out in the yard asking how much I want for it. lol no nope nada. It's mine mine mine and the flowers I have in it look great. I have it parked in a lil cut out of the woods that you can see from the road. When the trees are all leaved out, it looks great.

You saw the others we have. I have my green beans growing in them. Once it warms up the beans go outdoors then we plant some annual flowers in the boxes for the front deck and or back stairs as well. I also want to find some old wagon wheels for the edges of my driveway. Just two. The steel rimmed type you know what I mean? Well I've seen them go for over $100 each at auctions. I can't afford that though. I think you posted a pic of the wheelbarrow last year if I am not mistaken.

You and me both with the steel-rimmed wagon wheels. They can't even be had around here for any price. Just the wooden ones that are falling apart. Not sure if I posted the pic or not but no longer have it on my puter and right now, you can't even see the wheelbarrel cause it's literally overrun with vines, both planted and wild that came up out of the woods.

That is a very good deal - if you price these boxes at the nursery or home stores, they are a ton of money more. Wave petunias are a favorite of mine - I love how they grow all over without getting so leggy. I have a bunch of oversized flower pots my neighbor gave me when she moved and I found bound to use these. I'm going to make artistic arrangements of flowers and greenery in them (in my dreams!), or more likely just what I see when I go buy the flowers and can't do without - all bright colors for sure.
Have you seen those big truck tire planters! What do you think?

I was planning on buying the wood and stuff and make a couple myself this year. But this was too good to pass up for such a good price. I was willing to pay up to $15 for them both but got them a lot cheaper. Wave Petunias are awesome looking aren't they? A lot of people never heard of them really. We have a couple large pots outddors we plant other annuals in as well for yard decorations. I kinda like the tire planters. They look a bit tacky to me though really. I will pass on those. I have an old washing machine and have thought of burying the tub partially in the ground as a planter.

A bargain. You have made them look very attractive with the wood varnish.
I dont have any flower boxes as such, but I do have an old babies toddler pool, that I converted to a plant Pit!
Oh, I do have all these planter boxes out the front with strawberry plants in them. They were given to us by friends who moved interstate. In fact they gave us lots of plants.
Petunias will be ideal planted in your boxes.

I didn't varnish them yet. They look a lot better in the hpoto
due to the flash. they are actually a lot lighter and not so
shiny looking. We plant a lot of Petunias in various boxes and
pots all over the yard each year.

I have seen things at stores that have the hook for the windows
and patio deck rails and you set the planter inside them.

We have wooden flower boxes around our trees. I do not have anything planted around them this year. I used to have some live forevers planted around them but I took them out and never replaced them with something else. I would love to have some old wagon wheels and a =n old wheel barrel also. I love that kind of stuff. I also like the half barrels that used to hold whiskey in them also. they make nice flower barrels. the washing machine tub would be neat also.

Those are beautiful and will be stunning filled with the petunias.
I don't have any boxes, but I'm using just about everything else for containers around here. I'm trying to see just how far I can get without spending any money.
I had a couple of nice baskets sitting in my storage locker so grabbed them the other day, thinking I'd plant some flowers in them and sit them on the porch.
Well my flower seeds that I started aren't doing real well and I need more places for beans and such, so I decided to look at it all again. The baskets are wide and deep enough that I think I can put three beans in each (they're bush type) and do quite well.
I'm still putting some beans/snap peas directly into the ground beside the house, but space is limited and I wanted to put a few more into containers so I can move around to keep in the sun.
I'm hoping it'll work - should be interesting regardless!

Hey we use what we can when it comes to flowers. My wife even saves thoase cheap little plastic hangers that plants come in from the stores. She plants other summer flowers in them and we hang them on sheppards hooks out front. Good luck with all your garden as well.
