Help!! I've lost somebody and I can't find her!!

One of my closest friends moved to Montana a few years ago and I haven't heard from her for at least a year. I've instant messaged her many times with no response, she changed cell numbers or something. This is not the kind of girl who would just stop communicating with me. Besides the fact that she was incredibly close to my kids, she is the type to quit talking to her mom before she quit talking to me. How do I go about finding someone on the net?? I've thought about calling the police where she lives and have them call me if they find her. Maybe I have watched 1 too many true crime shows, but I know my girl. Even if she didn't want to talk to me, she wouldn't cut off my kids without a really good reason. I worry too much probably. She is probably just having fun living her life and enjoying being young. Anyway, any suggestions would be appreciated.
