Running or walking in the rain?

I have always wondered whether you get more wet walking in the raining or running in it? Logic says that if you run, you're not exposed to the rain as long but wouldn't you also get more rain drops on you as a result of moving twice as fast through the wet? This is a topic I'm very passionate about so let me know what you think!

Wow I didn't know that Mythbusters conducted an experiment on this topic! That's fascinating, thanks for the link!

The link isn't working for me, it may be my computer though. I'll search for the experiment though myself :-)

haha.. good question. You made me think about it. Well based on my opinion, i'd say you'll get soaking wet when you walk in the rain compared to running. By running, you will reach shelter much faster than walking and because of that, you save yourself from getting soaked in the rain. But by walking, because you walk, you'll definately get soaking wet as you are exposed to the rain longer than running.. i hope i dont get anyone confused here.. haha.. this is my opinion on this. Thanks for a good question!

Apparently, you get just as wet, but maybe wetter on the front if you run and wet all over by walking. Heck, I remember walking thru a driving rain storm in college with an umbrella and the rain was coming down so hard it was misting thru the fabric of the umbrella. I was damp when I got to my class! Thankfully it had pretty much stopped by the time class was out. Now, could this class have been in a nice dry room - no - while we didn't go out, the class was a golf class and held in the shed they stored the clubs for the college....

Hello my new friend. I searched your discussions to find this very interesting one. It made me start to think about this question and I am starting to get confused for this. But still I think that we could get wetter from running in the rain than we walk in the rain. Thank you for being my friend, coffeeshot.

It looks like you may get more wet because you would run through alot more falling rain and you would also be stomping on the rain that is already fallen on the ground too.

Hello there, I am afraid I have no passionate on walking or running in the rain. However, yesterday morning I was unable to avoid such. Since it looked like a sunny morning, my hubby suggested us all went out for a jogging. On the way, it suddenly rained heavily that we didn’t have very much choice. We just carried on our jogging; walking and running home. It was fun though.

I'm convinced that if you run through the rain, you can avoid more raindrops. But I don't have any science or logic to back up this idea. :)

I have no idea. I hate getting wet both ways! My husband swears that you get less wet if you walk though. He says that he has tried it both ways multiple times and gets more wet if he runs. No matter what he tells me; I still run!

Well I only do one thing in the rain and that is get extremely wet!! I walk, so I get soaked, and it is even worse if the kids are with me as they are not yet the fastest of walkers!! I am not likely to be seen running in it so I can not give you the answer to that one!!

Not to certain about whether you get wetter or not unless you slip from running wearing improper shoes..then of course you will.. cause you'll be on the ground soaked LOL...I've done this so i should know!

whether you walk or run under the rain, you still get wet but the longer you are under the rain the more you get wet. we run to get out of the rain as fast as we can. this has been done and tested in mythbusters.

Well Logically speaking I would think that you would get more wet running in the rain. When you run you're not only going to be hit from the splashes of rain above you, but from the splashes of rain below you. Think about the puddles that you may run through. Think about driving a car through the rain and how, the faster the car is going...the more rain splashes up. So my guess is running would make you wetter. You can also search this and find a gazillion answers. http://search.yahoo.com/search?p=get+more+wet+walking+in+the+raining+or+running+in+rain&fr=yfp-t-501&toggle=1&cop=mss&ei=UTF-8
