A Half Azzed Job

I have been very ill as of late with some dang virus or bug. Anyhow today I was feeling a little better and it was warmer than it has been for a week. I went out to start some yard work. I got the lawnmower started easily after it sat all winter with no problem. But after I got about a third of my back yard mowed I started to feel ill again with the hacking and wheezing and gasping for breath. I shut the mower off going inside. I used my inhaler etc and felt better really quick. Well I decided not to risk anymore asthma attakcs and left the lawn as it is till I feel better. So I did a half azzed job on my yard as far as mowing. Have you ever done just part of the yard as far as mowing and left it till the next time? I hated doing this but my chest just hurt so much I could not go on today. I may finish it tomorrow weather permitting. Thanks all. Have a great day/evening.

I am stubborn and cut my whole yard non stop..We have almost an acre, and the only thing that stops me is if I run out of fuel..But you should take is easy if you are having chest pain, it isn't a good idea to keep cutting..

Oh, I would not have you just cutting the lawn. I need some soil tilled, some weeding done, my garage is a disaster area, I need the garage insulated and walls installed in it as well, I have a small leak in the attic also. A few more "little" tasks is all.

I haven't changed my avatar in months, and I thought it was time for a change..
As for cutting your grass, I would, but that is awfully far to drive just to cut your grass..

At least you got a start on it. Yes I have done this with many jobs around the yard. It's not due to breathing problems, but due to my pain issues. You gotta know when you've had enough, and not beat yourself up for not finishing the job. You'll get to it...eventually. And when you do, just start on the longer side, that way if you only get half way again, it'll still look a little better than it did before:)
I have a few flower beds, and I'll go out to tend to them. I have one in the front of the house that I started to loosen the soil. I got half way and knew I was going to have to end it before it was done. So I took some time to plant some of the seeds....Well that was a week agao, and I haven't been back to finish the job. So one half has little sprouts of new flowers, and the other half is packed down soil and weeds. You are not alone...maybe when this flare up is done tortuting my body, I will go take care of that other half;)

I would of quit too.. I don't remember having to, except for lawnmower repair! Or wire extraction from the blades! But I have mowed the whole thing very quickly in 3rd gear with the blades a bit high, cause I knew it was going to rain.. Then I just had to get out there sooner to mow the next time..

My back yard is about twice the average city yard. Not that big for a riding lawnmower but I keep telling the wife to buy me one anyhow.

I'm sorry you felt poorly again and didn't get to finish, but it's good that you knew to stop and not continue to push it.

Hey the grass will still be there tomorrow, and the next day and the next and the next it wont go any where! But you will end up very sick if you dont take notice of what your body is telling you SLOW DOWN. Life is unpredictable dont take it for granted, things can change with a blink of an eye! Im sure your wife has told you many times to slow down as asthma is very dangeruos!!! Im going on a bit here so take care have a nice day.

Yes I used to do that all the time. I would do the dront one day and the back on another day. The back grew quicker then the front. There is no sense in pushing yourself, you don't want to get sicker. That will set youback even more. This cold, bug or whatever you want to call it, has been going around. We all had it a couple of weeks ago. My granddaughter even ended up in the hospital. My grandson ended up getting double ear infections on top of the cold and flu symptoms. Hope you get to feeling better soon.

I too have Asthma and allergies. We do what we are able to do. Don't be so hard on yourself. When that Asthma kicks up, you know that you have to get away from whatever is causing a flare up. I was born with Asthma, but I never had problems with it until recently.
Before that, I would hear a lot about Asthma, but I could not imagine what it felt like to not be able to catch my breath.

Sometimes we have to do what we have to do, and if putting it off for another time then that's what we have to do. I'm sure it will be waiting for you for when you are feeling better!
Have you tried wearing a mask or something over your nose and mouth, sounds like it could be allergy related.

Hi GRANDPA BOB! I do think that all of us need to just stop doing any work if we are not feeling well. We have to prioritize our health more than our house chores or any work. I hope you are feeling much better now. I have experienced the same thing when I usually have headaches. I just stopped doing anything when I am not feeling well then just resume work when I am so much better. Just my thoughts dear friend. Take care and have a nice day!

Yes, I have! I have arthritis and scoliosis and mowing the yard is very painful for me if I don't do it in small chunks. So my yard used to be patchily mowed for two days a week! Luckily, I found a college guy to do it for $10 and he trims, too. (in Arizona, the same thing costs $40!)
Grandpa Bob, after you've been ill you need to take it easy! When you feel better, wait another day or so before doing anything like mowing! Better yet, walk around the yard a couple times and see how you feel before you get near machinery!

That's why I stopped as I was not feeling great. I had actually done a lot of other thiongs prior to mowing so that's why the half azzed job actually. I did some raking out front and a little weeding of the flower beds etc. Thanks.

Well, you have had a bug of sorts, then before you are better, you try and mow the lawn with a push mower, not tooo smart.. We have a high pollen count here in TN, so you have a high pollen count where you are at? You ar old enough to know better, better just stick to the soup for awhile until you get to feeling better.. Take care and stay well

Oh, that happens a lot at my house. I often do not have the time to get the whole thing done and it is just catch as catch can. When the weather gets hot I have a hard time tolerating it. It is smart to stop when you do not feel well, so you do not get sick. Glad to see you back.

I let mine grow like a jungle and then somebody gets tired of looking at it and weedwacks it for me. I know how you feel everything I do I do just a bit for and then I have to stop.

Yes I have done that many times. I have bad allergies or asthma myself. I had always thought it was just allergies and the doctor gave me an asthma inhaler. When I questioned him he said "its the same thing". Mowing the yard just about kills me. If I were you I would not mow that yard right now.
I would wait until you are completely up to it.

I have allergies to grass, so rarely mow the lawn. It would not have a chance of being done completely by me. It would cause me to sneeze a lot, so would take several days. Hope your feeling better quickly.

Back b4 we bought our riding mower, we had 2 walk-behind ones that you had to push. My back was really out of sorts at the time so, yeah, there were many times the yard only got half done when I was forced to quit but would finish it the next day. Now that we have the rider, only 2 reasons why the lawn wouldn't get finished completely is 1. started raining hard and 2. ran completely out of gas.

Grandpa Bob take it easy breezy you have a long wayto slide, thats what my husband used to say when i had overdone something and could not finish it. of course he did not say like a good hubby should have, let me finish it as it was a sinkful of dirty
dishes which his honor had helped to dirty. that was when i hadthe flu and my hubby was sill alive. hewould do almost any kind of house work for me if needed but not the dishes. Mowing with a lawmower is hard work even when you feelgood but really hard when you don't. oh my this reminds me of once when I said I would like to use the mower, well myhubby has sort of super chargedd it or something and when I tookit I was not just walking briskly behind it I was being towed by it and screaming help how do you turn the damned thing off and my son and myhusband were having too much fun laughing at me to help me shut it down so I ran it up over my hubbies patch of onions and it did stop. He was not laughing any more then lol my the air did smell pungent but it was only the tops that got a little chewed up no harm done. My son turned it off and I left them to figure out things. I was too teed off to even talk lol.
