Have you ever donated food?

How many of you have donated food? I have donated a lot of cans in the past. This year will give a few cans on Saturday for the Postal Can Food Drive. It has been a hard year, so don't have a lot of extra cans. To help in the United States place cans at your mail box and the mail person will pick them up. The food banks are low on food, so I hope a few people are able to give a few cans.

It was Christmas 1998. Me and my co-teachers collected money from our neighbors and we bought staple foods like rice, canned goods, noodles, cheese and that sort. And on the day before Christmas, we went to the slum area and distributed a pack of those food for each family. It was one of the highlights of my life. The happiness you feel is unparalleled. It stays forever in your bosom.

I agree teachers never forget helping others. Many years ago, I was a teacher and we helped several families. Its a great feeling knowing somebody else will have a better holiday.

It's true. The happiness you get can never be paid. And besides you never, ever regret being nice to other people.

Yes I have donated in the past and now I am the recipient of food from the food bank. I never thought that I would end up this way though.

I think many of us never realize it can happen to any of us. One year when I was in college I was given a box of food for Christmas, as the Food Bank gave food to every college student that wasn't going home for the holidays. I remember those young men at my door wishing me a great holiday. Its something I'll never forget.

I completely understand, as food has gone up a lot. If I had any idea, would have stocked up on more food, as now its really high here. Thanks for the reply.

Yes we donate food several times a year. There are can drives at school ~ my daughter always takes items in. She loves to- We also leave cans of food in the boy scout bags that get left on the door. I didn't know anything about the USPS doing this. This is great! :) Anything to help out people. I did just see a special on food banks-- that they were running low- they are spending the same amoutn of money but getting much less food- as the costs keep going up. Even the stores and BIG suppliers that donate to these food banks (which go to the food shelters) are giving less- due to the cost of rising prices.

I donated a box today. The food banks are going to have a hard year. Most of my neighbors couldn't help this year. The coupon trains are the only reason I could help. Have a good weekend.

We don't have a good place to put the donated food for the food drive this year - we're in a large condominium complex and I wish I had thought to ask management about a box. Too late now. Other years, I have always put out extra cans in a big bag. I always had cans I had from stuff on sale that didn't get used up. I hear they get some very exotic stuff folks have bought and never tried. I hope they collect a bunch of good canned goods as well.

They did receive some strange cans from my house. I didn't have many to donate, but wanted to help this year. Its hard to find any good deals at the grocery store. Thanks for the reply.

My school used to have canned and box food drives, and I always donated some. I would love to continue donating, but now that I'm out of school I'm not sure where to donate. xD

During the winter holidays many of the stores here have collection boxes at the grocery stores to help the food banks. Thanks for the reply.

We did it a few times when I was a kid that I can remember. We don't really do it anymore because we don't buy many canned foods anymore. We usually grow our own and then can them for later use. Every once in a while we'll buy some canned foods, but it's never a nice stockpile that can be given to others for use.

I completely understand about growing your own food. The grocery store just keeps raising their prices. Thanks for the reply.

That is terrible somebody stealing your stand. I can't understand why some people do terrible things. The post office hasn't sent me a notice, but they normally do the day before the event. A notice was in Sunday's Paper. Thanks for the reply.
