Do you respond to old discussions?

When you see a discussion that is a year or so old do you respond to it or skip it. What if you know the person isn't active any more? I just seen a discussion from a year ago and the person who started that discussion only had a 13 so I figure that person isn't active if in a year they only responded to 13 discussions. I didn't respond because whats the point if the person that started the discussion isn't going to see it. But at the same time I think I should have because its not like all the active people even look at once they start a discussion. So what do you think and why??

Hi, I do respond to old discussions. In my opinion, I will respond to the discussions if the topic discussed attract my attention. If the person who start the discussions is not active, other myloters can also write comments on my responds. So, responding to inactive member's discussions is still acceptable for me.

I agree that if you see a discussion you like you should respond to it no matter how old it is. I went back and responded to the one that started this discussion.

It depends... If the discussion is some that I would like to express my views on, I'd surely write something there, or else just give it a skip. There are chances that we might bring back a person from dormancy. bourne

I doubt that question would have brought the person back but you never do really know.

if I feel like answering it I do... if the person is not active - and they get the email notifying them of a reply to their discussion they might just pop in again and read it... one of my friends may find the discussion through my link and join in the conversation... any other person who had answered it previously might still be active. so, why not?

Why not ?? Because this is a discussion board and you can't have a discussion with an inactive person.

I have responded to quite a few old discussions. I a discussion looks interesting, and even if a best response has been selected (I am not in it for the best responses anyway, but I do appreciate the ones I receive), I'll respond if the discussions look interesting.

Yes I too like to see that I recieved a best response but that isn't why I am here either. I'm here for the converstaion. The adult conversation. 3 kids and a husband - I need to talk to other people some times lol.

I never check to see if the person is active or not. Ive been here long enough and know who is active and who is not. Yes I will respond to a discussion if its old. If I like a discussion then of course I will respond to it. It doesnt matter how old it is.

You sure have! If I posted to old ones too maybe I'd do better. I have been here for about a year and a half and don't have a quarter posts as you do!

I might if I have something to say. We get points and $ no matter how old the thread is, so why not. I have not responded because it is very old, but usually I still will. I have even gone back on some friends looking for old discussions to get them going again.

I think I will just do as you do. If the one who started that discussion does not read it anymore, there is no point of responding. But sometimes even the member is active, I will think this is so long ago and that member minght not remember what did he/she say so long ago. Then I will choose not to reply. However if the topic is so inspiring that I can't help posting a response. I'll just do it.

Agreed! This one discussion wasn't of that much importance so it was no big deal to not respond. As you can see I have been on Mylot of 2 years and don't have a lot of responses. Not because I'm not here because I am pretty often, but I don't respond to every thing I read. Some times what I would have said is already there and some times its not some thing I want to get into here. Other times the "heading" isn't what I thought the discussion would be about.

I agree with you on those reasons you have mentioned. Maybe all of us share this common ground.

I do respond if it's a topic I'm strongly interested in. I don't know how to tell if someone is still active or not. I just respond. Plus, I believe it still counts in our favor, even if that person doesn't bother any more, so I don't worry about it. If I like the topic and have an opinion, I respond. (Besides, I usually don't notice when it was begun until AFTER I've posted my response! LOL)

I agree there. I notice after I have responded. I know it gives us money to respond to every thing but I'm not here for the money. I am here for the converstaion, the discussions. The money I make here isn't going to help me financially it just gives me some money to spend on ebay every once in a while.

Exactly - I'm here mainly for the communication factor; the chance to say what I think in a civil environment, and to maybe meet people along the way. The money is merely a bonus and might help once in a while for gas.

From time to time I will and it is usually because my fiance has found it and responded to it first. I suppose your right that it's kind of useless if they haven't been active in a year, if you go to their profile it will tell you how long it has been since they've posted.

Yes you can look at there profile. For the one I was looking at it was obvous that they weren't around. The discussion was started a year ago and they only had (13) next to the username. If they were still around in a year they would have had more then that.

I'm not sure its useless, because the discussion then becomes active again - and someone else may respond to your response, and continue the conversation.

Yes, if I think it is still a viable discussion. It might bring it to the attention of others and continue the discussion, even if the original poster is no longer active. It could be a good subject.

It depends on what a topic is all about. I don't usually touch old topics and let it go past. I only responded to recent topics or maybe a month or two month old topics.

The one I was looking at was not a question that people would be researching so I didn't see the point in responding to it.

Yes i still do respond to old discussions, i do so especially if i really have something to say in relation to the topic being discussed. It doesn't matter if the person who started the discussion will no longer read it. It will still count as an addition to your number of posts. And your right, it will be read by other mylotters who might research in the particular topic.

Well, it's really depends on the topic discussion. Even if it 's too old but interesting enough, I'll respond to it. But I usually respond to the latest discussion and topics made by my friends :D

Sometimes I respond to old discussions, depending on how interesting I think they are. While its true, the poster may not see it, other people will, and that gives me more opportunity to be seen, which means there's all that much more chance of people coming to my profile and seeing the discussions I have started and maybe they'll find them interesting enough to post their opinion on.
