Keeping in Touch (Surprisingly)

My kindergarten teacher still sends me Christmas cards. I'm 27 years old and every Christmas I get a card and a letter telling me all about what is going on with her. I've written back, which is how she has kept track of me over the years even though I've moved. She's thousands of miles away now. I know I'm not the only student she has kept in contact with. I haven't seen her since I was seven years old, but she still thinks about the children she taught. She is a wonderful woman. Have you kept in touch with someone that one wouldn't think you'd normally keep in touch with? Despite the odds and distance are you still in contact with someone no one would expect? Or perhaps you are currently trying to find someone you lost contact with, and are trying to rectify the situation.

You are kidding? She is still in contact with you? What a wonderful teacher..My daughter was in contact with her I think 10th grade English teacher..But only during the last semester of that school year because my daughter was home schooled the last half of the year..My daughter tried keeping in contact, but the teacher didn't follow through and now she has lost on how to re connect.. There is someone who recently contacted me because I signed up for classmates.com..but I don't have the upgrade, (and probably never will) and the person who contacted me was a neighbor boy who was a year older then I.. Turns out he is also many miles away, but his Mom, who was very nice, is still in the area and whenever I visit my hometown, I do look for her, but haven't seen her yet..

She hasn't even taught school since she left our state and moved to Oregon. She began working for a Congressman. But she still keeps in touch, which is very special to me.

I've never met a person who loved so freely. You could just see God working through her.

That is amazing..The woman not only enjoyed teaching as a career, but it was her life to be interested in her former students like that..She must have been a great teacher to have..

That is really sweet. I find it really difficult to keep in contact with people, things move on people move on and I just stop talking to them. I have had various pen pals and the longest that one has lasted is about one year. I am useless.

Once a long enough interval has passed, it gets harder and harder to pick up a pen or the telephone though, doesn't it? I'm just the same.

I don't think it is a matter of being hard, just a matter of forgetting to write back and then loosing the address.

That's great! Some teachers are so kool! I exchange Christmas cards with a high school friend (from the 70's) but that's it. I looked her up and another gal years ago when I went home to visit.. I'm going to do searches on Myspace for people I once knew.. Who knows? Maybe I'll happen across someone. That would be fun!

It would be fun. My mom came into contact with one of her best friends in the 70s and they got to meet up one weekend. I know it brought back great memories for her.

The last time I visited Oregon saw my second grade teacher. She was in poor health, but in good spirits, as she was in her 90's. I enjoyed our chat, as she remembered the day I was swinging from the lights. All of the high achievers were caught swinging from the lights. It turns out each one of us ended up teaching for at least one year. We all knew any student could be caught doing something that they hoped the teacher would not remember years later.

Awww.. that is so nice. What a wonderful woman and how unique. I don't have any nice story to add. I don't keep in touch with anyone unusual or anything but I had to say what a nice story this is and how it really made me smile on my difficult night. :) thanks for sharing it.

Oh how I admire the thoughtfullness of that teacher of yours. Perhaps I should learn something from her and start showing my thougtfullness to friends and relatives alike. You know, I have kind of thought that sending cards has become obsolete but when I heard you story, I realized it is not really! So I might as well do start sending cards and greetings to show I care and think of them. Thanks!

I like to send out cards to others as well. So many people only use e-mail now, so it is always special when someone takes the time to do that.

I don't really keep in touch with anyone that I went to school with. That is great through that she does keep in touch like she does with you. You must have been one of her favorites. No I am not trying to rectify the situation of not keeping in touch with teachers or classmates. I feel we have totally all went our separate ways and we growed apart and went on with life. I feel that I would probably be uncomfortable and probably have nothing in common with my old friends anymore we all have moved on.

That is very nice of your teacher to do. alot of people see each other in early years and then lose touch with each other once they have grown up or moved away. I have a few people in mind that I would like to know more about how they are doing, but not really get in touch with them. It would just be nice to know that they are okay and doing well.

My two best friends from high school and I still keep in touch. Both live far away. Even if I sometimes forget to contact them at Christmas or whatever...they are forgiving and still keep on sending me cards and letters! It's so very nice to still be friends 39 years later.

Hi There, What a nice thing for that teacher to do. THat really shows somebody that cares and is in the teaching profession for the right reason. I am not so good about keeping in touch with people. I often spend a lot of time thinking about people and what may have happened to them, but not enough time trying to contact them. It is one of the things I regret. cheers,

I do not even remember my kindergarten teachers name. I remember that she was out for a few months because she had a baby in the middle of the school year. I am terrible about keeping in touch with people, so I cannot think of anyone like that.

Well bless her heart she is just too sweet. She must of been made to be a teacher:) Truly loves children. The only people I have kept off on again friendships were just friends from school, jobs etc so nothing out of the norm no.

What a really nice teacher to do that it just shows that you and the other students meant so much to her. I dont keep in touch with the people I knew years ago I mean to but there is always something else that takes up my time which is shocking. I should make the time.

I am not very good at keeping in touch... but i have a friendster account where sometimes communicate with my old friends and classmates living faraway... i get to see their kids and be updated with the latest in their lives... but there is this one person who i am searching for right now... i have not seen her for more than 15 years... I tried searching for her through the internet... but nothing happened... i even attended our high school reunion in the hopes of seeing her there... but she did not come... well i am hoping that one of these days i will bump into her...

This is great! She is really an amazing woman. I have never received something like this. I guess it is just so hard to track since I moved a couple of cities now. I see a few of my teachers when I have the chance to go home to my hometown. But we never really sit down and talk. One class in the Philippines in a public school would normally have 30 students during my time. every year it increases. i dont think they will be able to remember. :)
