Saturday and Sunday is radio play time. I get to hear Fibber McGee and Molly, Our Miss Brooks, Red Skelton, Phil Harris and Alice Fay, and more. They can be so funny! I love the old radio stuff. I used to get a station in Arizona that played "The Shadow" and "Red Rider". Haven't found them here yet on the radio but they're available on the internet. I like to hear them when I'm laying in bed but not possible without subscription radio. Too bad. Anyway, if you like stuff like this, you can tune into: http://www.the1920snetwork.com/ Great music, wonderful radio plays on the weekends. I love the old music, too!

I'm afraid I don't concentrate when something is on the radio, I get distracted and try and do something else at the same time. Then I miss important bits and have to give up. My Mum and my son both really enjoy audiobooks, but I prefer the written word.

I do love reading but the radio plays don't distract me when I'm writing or posting here. They're very entertaining. When I had XM radio I would actually sit down and listen to the old plays and do nothing else! I loved it.

Hi Dragon Many people know I grew up without television in my home. I watched television in a friends home, as was and still am a huge fan of Perry Mason. At my home my girlfriend and I would listen to Dragnet and Nero Wolfe, so feel like I watched and listened to the best.

Thanks for the link, I will have to bookmark it. I used to listen to them a long time ago when I went to bed. My local radio station would play many of the ones that you listed. I also liked "My Favorite Husband", too. That one was sorta a pre-cursor to I Love Lucy. I think I used to listen to The Shadow as well.

I've been thinking about getting XM radio again, where you have to pay $10 a month for the subscription. They have a lovely old nostalgia station that has all those plays and the wonderful music of the past. I hate to pay all that money but it might be worth it when you think about what today's music sounds like! OMG, I've become my grandma!!

Every weekend a station here has what's called "Imagination Theatre". Great radio plays each week. The main ones they have are, Sherlock Holmse, Harry Niles, Louise Lamour Westerns and a few others. Great stories to listen to. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I like the way they build a scene and you can almost see the action. Just goes to show that people rise creatively when they need to, and those radio actors, writers and sound effects guys were geniuses. I missed the radio era, I was born in 1954, but I remember that tv was in its infancy and I think it was better then than it is now. Radio was an art and I appreciate those old shows so much! I look forward to the weekend when I can tune it in on my computer and be entertained.

I like some of those as well. You can also go to walmart and get some of them for only a dollar. We have some of Red Skelton we got from there.

I LOVED his tv show!! He was so funny! I don't think you're old enough to remember Laugh-In or Ed Sullivan but they were great tv shows, too.

Wasn't it Ruth Buzzy that rode that little tricycle? Though I was young I remember certain parts of it well. Wasn't that where Goldie Hawn got started acting? One of my favorite shows of that time was Kids say the darndest things. I know Bill Cosby did that show later and he was very good at it, but wasn't Art Linkletter the original host? I can barely remember that one, but I remember it was funny.
