What have you given up?

I was watching apiece about the price of gas on TV today, and in it people were mentioning how they had to choose between gas and food etc. Have you had to give anything up in order to keep up with gas proces? Maybe that $5 cup of Starbucks coffee perhaps, or something more drastic.

To be honest I have not given up anything yet, mainly b/c I did years ago when I decided to get real about getting out of debt. ALthough I may have to trade in my current job for one closer to home if it keeps up....oh and even though I was able to knock out loads of debt from the past I've had to rack up a little more in the meantime...so I guess I had to give up my target date of my plan. I have a feeling a lot of people are going to be giving up a lot of things....sad but true

Before 2007 ended I gave up my job so I can join my boyfriend here in the UK. Now I'm jobless and it sometimes bore me and makes me sad not making money of my own. It's good my boyfriend is very supportive and he takes good care of me. Also there are things that I have to give up and live simply. I don't go to spas anymore. I don't buy brand new clothes everytime I see something I like. I believe I can still survive with what I already have.

We've actually given up some of the treats that we used to get when we went out. And we've cut our summer travel too. We only go where we need to and no where else.

I had to gave up on going out to eat and staying home on some weekends so that the gas would last for half of the next week.

I have stopped driving as much. I will wait a day or two after I run out of something to wait and make all of my shopping trips in one day. I used to just come and go as I please. Of course, I have had a lot of other changes which have effected that also.

We just quit driving all together. Everything is close enough to walk and if we need to go into the city we ride share with others. We only drive our vehicle once or twice a month just to go shopping for groceries.

We use to see a lot of movies, but not anymore. Food is a priority, so something else must go. I use to sell a lot of fish in my business, but the high water and electric bill couldn't be covered selling fish. I have 30 fish tanks, but will be down to 6 this weekend. The fish and tanks are sold. I'll miss selling lots of fish, but had to take a hard look at my profit and loss areas of my business.

I'm shopping less and driving slower and shopping more carefully - the shops are 60klms away. It hasn't really hit home yet. I know I'm spending more money than I should and it will catch up with me soon but I can't face it yet. I've been using my credit card for groceries since I lost my job.

My family has been used to scrounging around for every penny and cutting back on this and doing without that. The only thing that has changed in our life is that we have to work seven days per week now just to pay the bills and pay for gas and food. We have no time or money for much else other than that unless there is an extra paycheck or the tax check to spend. The only thing we have actually given up is time off to relax and enjoy life.

We lessen the number of times we will be eating outside and try to control ourselves in buying our WANTS, to save!

We've actually given up driving as much as we can. The only time we really need to use the car is to go grocery shopping, and to visit a couple of friends who don't live on a bus route that runs late at night. Other than that, though, we take the bus as much as we can. This means that I've had to give up my occasional excursions to the BIG craft stores, which is a bit of a hardship for me. But seeing as I probably shouldn't be spending so much on craft supplies, I guess it's a somewhat good thing!

I'm pretty frugal already, so there's not much to give up! However, I have started to be allot more careful with my vehicle use in order to limit the milage. No more trips out to see friends unless there's something else that I need in that direction. Unfortunately I live a fair distance from the larger towns so I need the van for pretty much everything. I'm also filling up at the cheaper places, whether the van is empty or not. I might not be that way again when the tank is empty so I might as well take advantage of a slight discount, even if it's only for half a tank.

Our Family carpool together in the van. It's pretty good on gas. although I'm a Real Estate Agent, so I have to drive my own to show property, but I also ask the buyer to chose at least 5 properties that they really what to see and I also have them to call me or I will call them to confirm the appoint about an hour before taking off. Sometimes buyers will cancel or no show during the appointment time. It's part of the job. Also, since it's so hot here in San Antonio, I try to fill-up early morning or after 7pm after watching the story about how you get last gas when its hot weather.

I have not given up anything to pay for gas, because I do not need to pay for gas. I do not ae a car, and I never will, becaue I can't see well enough to drive. Sure I need to sae a bit of extra money when I want to fly somewhere, but that doesn't happen often enough or me to need to give anything up in order to pay for the cost of the plane ticket.

I just don't go anywhere period anymore. I don't have a job right now. I have applied for one but even that was done online so I didn't have to drive anywhere. I'm not going to go anywhere unless I need to. I just don't want to waste any more money at the pump.

Hi inked4life! Our country is experiencing the same thing with the high price of gas. Personally, we are not using our car anymore so we have given up on the gas and other things that is not really a necessity such as having that Starbucks coffee or to be able to have a new pair of shoes. haha.. I am really on a tight budget and our income is really not enough anymore to cover up all the bills and the monthly expenses for food alone. I am always looking at my list what I still I can give up..but so far, the only remaining in my list are house bills and food. Take Care and God Bless!
