Father's Day Card Afflictions

So Father's Day is Sunday and I already have a card for my dad of course. However, I have a heck of time finding one for my grandfather. You see since the beginning, all of the grandchildren have called him Papaw. And it seems weird to give him a card that calls him Grandpa or even Papa. Because we have never used those terms. He doesn't care what name the card has, he doesn't care a bit about that. All he cares about is that it is from us. But it would be nice to have a card that referred to him how I do. So I settled on a card with 'Grandpa' as the name, but I wish there was a card shop with different monikers for holidays instead of the usual. Like on Mother's Day I actually do find some Mother's Day cards that use the term Nana, which is what I call my grandmother. Hey, even some people may use different terms for their father! Anyone call their father or grandfather something besides what the cards have in their inventory? Do you ever have a hard time deciding what kind to use? Or do you make your own so you can refer to your loved one in the term you usually use?

I used to call my grandfather Bompy and if he were still alive I would buy the self adhesive gold letters that you can buy to make your own cards and buy a blank one and put the wording on the outside myself and then write a private message inside, much more personal and probably would in fact cost a lot less. I love making cards so I can write what I want onto them. I like drawing and mostly do a okay job at it, but other times it is easier and faster to just print one off and word it what you want. I called my grandparents granny and gramps.

My daughter often, sometime in June, sends a handmade card to my husband, for Bobert's Day. Her name for him, since he became her stepdad when she was an adult. It is a good relationship. He gave her away when she got married. It meant a lot to me. Maybe someone will design a card line with some different dialects of names. I know around here there are a lot of Scandinavian terms used.

That is so sweet. I was reading in yesterday's paper about how so many people are trying to find ways to show their stepdad that they are equally as important as their biological fathers, especially when stepdads were the ones who reared them.

I am going to send my step-dad an ecard. It is too ecpensive these to buy cards, especially when most people just open them up, read them and throw them in the garbage. I like to send musical ecards. My dad passed away back in 1985 and I take flowers to his grave when I get the chance to. It is not always on Father's Day though. I don't do this every year either. His grave is about 35- 40 miles from me one way. I have a hard time deciding what kind of card to send my step-dad though. It is hard to find the right words. I would rather use my own words.

I don't have a father or grandfather anymore but know what you mean. My grandkids in Arizona call their grandpa....opa..and grandmother oma....I think it's german. I do make my own cards and this year made one for my son that's shaped like a shirt! It was easy and fun to do.

ambiepam in my HaLLMARK store there are special cards that you can get blank and then put in the really'special things you want to say for father'day so you could address this kind of card to Papaw and then say how you feel about him, I have done thiis for my son and he really loved it as it was more special to him.
