I am disabled as my friends know but my yard was like a jungle, weeds were growing into trees. I gave the man 20.00 (grocery money) to do my yard today. He had to saw it before he could weed wack it, it took him 4 hours. It was a big job. We also found the neigbours garbage thrown in my car park, so my good neighbour is going to call the city to complain on the bad neighbour.
I am just happy the darn yard is done.
Did you ever have a yard in such bad condition?
Are you able to do your own yard work?

good for you then that you were able to get all of that accomplished, and sell the property afterwards too.

it wasn't the money that was the issue, it was the state of that back yard, though, and now I think I need to buy some kind of weed killer to keep those humongous weeds away.

Only time our yard gets really bad was this year. It rained so much before the first mowing, so our yard looked like a jungle. It was so bad we had a craw fish (looks like a lobster just creepier) crawl into my front yard. I had to get a neighbor across the street to move it out of my yard. I wish now that I took pictures of it for the ones that don't believe me. It took us 3 hours to mow the front and back yard. Now that we got it under control, it only takes about an hour and 45 minutes.
Our back yard, got even worse all because we had a tree fall down onto our property, we couldn't mow, until the owner came out and moved it. By then, it got really tall, I had to use a weed eater, just to get it to a level that we could use the mower. It was really bad, plus the tree that fell was huge.
In the picture, past the Magnolia tree on the left, right below all the green is a tree stump (what's left of the tree that fell. From there, all the way past the bright spot, is where the tree covered. It fell so hard, pieces of the tree was inbeded into our yard.

yes here too, there were heavy rains and that is what made it as bad as it is, but now hopefully it will be maintainable.

Hi winterose, I am a plain housewife so, I can track and monitor all the things that I need to work and maintain in the house aside fixing roof and faucets..LOL, I love moving our lawn though sometimes, I will find myself catching my breath since I have less outdoor activities now!

My allotment garden was in such condition last time (about 2 weeks ago). I couldn't even enter it without a hatchet ^^. Nah, just kidding... but my lawnmower couldn't cut this damn grass there. It was really big, something like 0,5 meter! Cheers and happy myloting.

My front yard is full of plants and ponds. Its a little messy, as weeds are a nightmare. The back yard has nothing in it. Recently, all the junipers were removed, so need to do some planting in those areas, as it looks terrible.
My daughter and husband do the lawn mowing. I avoid the lawn mower, as the dust makes me sneeze even more than grass. Sorry the yard has never been in that condition, as code enforcement would have fined me. My neighbors would report me fast.

we were afraid and surprised we didn't get a warning yet but we would have if left much longer, I would have gotten it done faster but there was just no money.

I know the money had to come from grocery money but boy did you get a good deal. Nowadays kids don't even want to work for 20.00. Sad how things have changed. I am also disabled and I am not able to shovel snow or cut the lawn but my husband is still able to do it so that's a good thing. Money is in short supply for us as well.

oh the man next door would have charged a lot more maybe 100 to someone else, but he knew I did not have much money so it was more like a favour to me.

Isn't it nice there are still good folks around. I know you're looking for something to kill weeds but I have no idea except for round up. That does work but it's deadly as far as using it if it's windy at all and when is it not? It will kill flowers trees or weeds so you need to be careful.

Wow, $20 for four hours of work! He was a nice person not to ask for more.
I am able to do my own yard work at the time being. I do the front yard one day and the back yard another day. This way it isn't so hard on my back. My yard isn't that big but people want too much to mow it for me. I don't have the extra money.
So I split it into two days and so far it seems to be fine. But, if my back gets worse I will have to figure a way to pay someone to mow it. Someone will complain and the city will issue me a ticket.

I think that $20 for 4 hours worth of yard work was a pretty good deal for you. I am glad that you were able to get your yard work done, but that is kind of a bummer that you had to spend your grocery money to get it done. My yard never gets very long unless it is really wet out and it cannot be mowed. We have a riding lawnmower otherwise I would be paying someone to mow it as well.

the job was worth 100 at least but, the man next door knows I hardly have any money, so that is why he accepted only 20.00

winterose it is amazing ur writing abilities, more strenth to your writing wisdom. It is pertinent to always keep the compound clean because of rodents and reptiles lying all around. I volunteer to pay you a visit at least once in a month to assist in clearing your yard. I mean it.

I am a landscaper by trade and I have seen some terrible yards. I just did one yesterday that was outstanding! LOL. I had to use a brushcutter to get the thing down to a manageable height and the roots still wanted to choke my mower! Apparently they had a run-in with the last lawn guy and he quit mid-way through the back yard. I wish I had some more pics I show you. These weeds were amazing! I am 6'2" and these things were well above my waist. I thought they were growing some exotic plants I was going to leave them alone at first. LOL.

When I have working equipment, I can do my own yardwork. It was so bad because hubby does not help and just flings junk that we got a notice from the city.he is a slob. I try to call it my fitness program to help me feel like doing it. It does not always happen. Sorry you had to use grocery money to do this, and glad that you had someone willing to do it for $20 and not $80.00

I am pleased that you managed to get it done even though at a price. When I first moved into one of my old houses I had a massive garden but the previous occupants had let it get really overgrown so I had a 'Garden Party' I provided food and drink and invited all my friends and relatives round to help and we had a lovely time socialising but getting the garden cleared at the same time. When I was on my own with my son, I moved into a bungalow with him. I had rented it and so had to take care of it and abide by the rules. I did not have a lawnmower at that time, could not afford one and the grass was getting longer and longer.
The neighbours around me looked down on me because I was young and a lone parent with a child and they made my life hell. In the end frightened that they were going to call my landlady up I went out to the garden one night when my son was in bed, with a pair of scissors and hand cut the whole lawn.
It took me hours and I was shattered when I had done, but I did it and it did not look too bad. Not long after I was able to get a cheap little mower to keep me going, but I will never forget that night. I had blisters so big I could hardly use my hand for days after !

Not so much anymore and I struggle with the loss. My yard is very important to me. I live in Arizona and yards with grass and trees aren't all that common. I love the smell of freshly mowed grass. I like all kinds of ivy and flowers but now I can't keep it like I like it kept. The good news is the overgrowth keeps the place cooler so I just plant more things and let them go wild.

actually my front yard is cemented and even at the back so that i will have to do the cleaning or cutting some weeds on it..it saves time and money i guess if it is..
