Have you ever been driving and sitting in traffic with no where to go, and the genius behind you starts honking his horn incessantly, as if his one horn is going to part traffic like Moses parted the Red Sea so he could just go through with ease. As if that isn't bad enough, the bunch of followers behind him also start honking and now not only are you sitting in trafficm and annoyed at that, but you have to listen to the sounds of 12 car horns honking for no apparent reason, because it is not like it is going to do any good. Do you get mad or bothered by this or do you join in and start honking along with everyone else.

I don't know why idiots do that, it doesn't help to honk if the traffic isn't moving. I always wish a cop would come along and pull them over and give them a ticket. You are not supposed to honk your car horn unless it is an emergency, like your brakes have failed and you must warn others that you cannot stop. People that honk just make me want to drive slower LOL

You're exactly right. You're only supposed to honk your horn for the very reasons you mentioned. I remember seeing a TV show where this guy honked at a cop who was blocking his way. The cop gave him a ticket for that, not to mention a good tongue lashing.

I don't like to honk other drivers unless if they are doing anything stupid or if they are likely to cause collision. I don't mind getting honked only if I made mistake that other drivers think I was doing the wrong thing during driving. But what I do mind is when people honk me for nothing. Unfortunately these days there are too many drivers that not behaving in the road and they drive like crazy. One instance where I getting honk that I did not do anything wrong was when I stay on the left lane (right hand drive car) on the 60km/h zone that I drive and obey the road speed limit, then came a big SUV tailing closely behind my back after passing other cars. That driver then honk me and flashes me many times with lights because me and other driver beside me were following the road speed limit. This driver was not patience enough and when the road widens he quickly passed me, then the driver yelling at me saying "f...ing old a**hole". Yes I got mad that time but I just let him drive like crazy. The driver then continue to do same thing when tailing other cars infront of me. I just hope someday that driver will lose his driving licence.

Tht driver is a jerk and is likely to get a heart attack if he stays stressed like that all the time! I see people like that, just ignore them or move out of their way. It's better than risking an accident, and they will move onto the next driver victim. Some people are just like that, unfortunately. :-(

I can't STAND when people honk their horn. I dont honk it if someone cuts me off. It stresses me out when I get honked at, especially in busy traffic, which is why I dont do it to other people.

It does happen and can be annoying. I don't think there is anything anyone can do. It may be the way some people relieve stress. Too bad it causes more than it relieves.

I don't have a car though but I easily get annoyed with cars and cabs who honks like crazy even if your already in the sidestep far from them. That ticks me off.

There has been a couple times when I was sitting in traffic and someone impatient behind me will start honking there horn at me,like one time me and my fiance were waiting to get on the interstate, the light was green, but I had to wait for traffic to stop coming, and I had my turn signal on,and the guy behind me in some fancy car started honking at me,which his stupidity was kind of funny.

i'm not driving... but my hubby does... and it is really annoying when people honk us for no reason... it is not only annoying, but also rude... my hubby usually just ignore it if he thinks that he didn't do anything wrong... but if the person is too much, then of course my hubby will be mad... but i always tell him that it is not worth it to have a fight with an idiot like that... if a person is acting like an idiot, why we have to entertain him/her??? that way, we are lowering ourselves and our standards to become an idiot too... so i always ask my hubby to ignore those idiots... take care and have a nice day...

Yeah, I wonder what is up with these people who do that? I remember this one guy behind me at a light who kept honking his horn so that I would move and he could get in a left turn lane. Well, I couldn't move up any more without hitting the car in front of me. I've hit someone like that before and it's not a fun thing to deal with. If I looked in a rear view mirror, the guy would be waving his hands at me as if I could move my car through matter to let him through. When the light finally turned green, I stuck my head out the window and laughed at him really loud. I guess he heard it because he seemed to get really infuriated and gave one really long honk. I hope he was so mad that he got a heart attack.

Well,as a non-Christian, trying to remember the story correctly- Moses struck the water with his staff, the waters of the Red Sea receded, and the Miracle happened. The genius behind you began blowing his Horn because he wanted a miracle to happen. And 'Bye Jiggers' the traffic receded, and you were able to drive on! Just as the Red Sea receded, a miracle happened. Moses was a Genious too!

Do I ever! It's a little more than annoying! Who do those people think they are? They're not really helping the problem, only contributing to the madness!

No, I have never been in traffic where folks start honking their horns! I can imagine that it would be very annoying though! It is bad enough when I am just walking down the street and folks beep their horns at each other to say hello, never mind being stuck with it all around me LOL.

I get pretty mad, cause like you said, it's not going to part the traffic. It's just a good waste of energy. Just crank up the tunes and relax until traffic starts to move.

I was in traffic light and it was red. There were three other cars in front of me. When the light turned to green, the stupid behind me honking although he knew the line had not move any inch yet. It took about 1-2 seconds to release brake, kick the pedal and go. Can't he wait for about a few seconds? Each time I meet genius like him I always want to yell to him "be patience moron, do you think this is an F1 car?" Some people do have problem with their attitude. Right now I just ignore them. It is not worth to spend your time and energy for people like that.

I think it messes up where the whole thing is intended for; to make people look around for danger because the horn sound scares us and tells us to watch out. When we 'learn' that people will merely honk because they are irritated then we won't be as carefull next time when someone tries to worn you that they aren't able to stop or whatever may be the case, and a crash or another severe accident may be the result (and even if you get out of it without a rip there wil surely be a lot of damage to the car).

I agree with what most people have posted as responses: Honking is not going to make anyone move -- there are cars in front of you, and, last time I checked, you have to wait for them to move first... I try to stay calm and ignore these people but sometimes it really can trigger a rage.

Yes, it does bother me when people beep as if doing so will make the traffic go away. :-) I have a great horn honking tale - and a true one - about something that happened to me. The light ahead of me was red, and I was waiting to make a right turn. Of course that meant that if traffic allowed, I could make a right turn on red. But there was a large truck sitting on my left and blocking my view of what might be coming from the left. The guy in the car behind me started honking his horn. That triggered a rage like I've never known before. I leapt from my car, surprised at my own reaction to the honking horn. I was mad! I remember silently praying to God to keep me from doing something stupid, even while I was rushing to the car behind me. I tapped on the guy's window. Well, perhaps I banged on the window. He rolled the window down, and although he was much bigger than I was, he appeared to be afraid. I suppose I looked like a crazed woman. I probably was one. Before he could say anything, I shouted, "Do you know my friend Jesus?" Relief spread over his face, and he quietly answered, "Yes." "Good," I said. "I guess that means you were honking for Jesus. But you know…I don't have a bumper sticker on my car asking you to do that." The light had turned green, so I quickly jumped back into my car. As made my right turn, I waved and gave a short, "toot, toot" on my horn. The other Christ-follower responded with a wave and "toot, toot" of his own. That's the way it happened. Thankfully, I've never experienced that kind of rage again. And, just as thankfully, I encounter very few folks who honk unnecessarily. :-) Blessings, Marilyn

risris24,that's a nightmare. I had such a similar experience last week, when I was driven with my sister in-law. The terrible honking, just as if they were killing PIGs,hurt my ears. But my sister in-law seemed quite graceful that time, she put on her lipstick in the car with a big smile. That was what really drove me crazy! :)

Nothing is more annoying than the sound of a honking horn, but after a while living in the city you just get used to ot and start to learn how to tune it out and ignore it.
