pockets of bacteria

Yesterday Matt wasted a day home waiting for the telephone company to come and then didn't come. They said they would come today (friday) but he had to go to the hospital. Meanwhile his home phone does not work. He went to the hospital for his gums, he has been having a lot of problems with his teeth. the doctor said that he has pockets of bacteria in his gums, and that he had to go back for gum surgery. He didn't want to make the appointment, but I told him not to play with that, if the infection gets to his blood stream he will die, he is going to go now and get it done. Do you have to convince your spouse to go to the doctor and get his health checked or is he or she the one to make sure to get all the necessary work done.

I hate when that happens you easte a whole day for nothing. My husband hates dentists and doctors alot..he hates dentists so bad he pulled all his own teeth. Of course we didn't have the money to do it if he did like them. I have tried several times to get him to go but he is a stubborn mule of a man.

I know to well about infections and teeth. I had my wisdom teeth get really infected, and it messed up my teeth around the wisdom teeth. I was very lucky it didn't get into the blood stream. I hate going to the doctor mainly because of the bill that will come later. So I'm like Matt, I will put off, until I can't anymore and go. My husband is the same way, somewhat, he will put off going just because he just hates to go. He broke his big toe a few years ago. He finally went to see a doctor a month after it happened. Then the pain got really bad, and for his guard job, to get out of running, he had to have a note from a doctor. So, that's when we started going. 3 doctors later and almost 600 out of our own pocket, he doesn't have to run anymore. I broke both my feet and big toes, my right foot was the worst, I broke it in 4-5 places and only got seen, because my job (military) made me. I never went back though for a follow up. I'm like my dad in away, I don't see it as important to see a doctor when your not sick, it's a waste of money.

oh I agree but it is a very different thing going to the doctor only when it is really important because of the expense, to not finding anything important like matt and just not wanting to go see the doctor.

My husband will not go to the doctor untill he is laying on the floor and can't get up then he will admit that something maybe wrong. I watch him get sicker and sicker each day till finally I just make the appointment and try to force him to go, I guess men are different than women or at least that is what he tells me that men don't run to the doctor with every little ailment. That causes the infection or whatever to get a head start and then he has to go through all kinds of tests nd treatment that if he had gone in the first place could of been avoided.

I guess that is part of the reason that there are more men in the graveyards lol, and the a woman's life expectancy is slightly higher than that of a man too.

I hate having to wait and wait for a serviceman to come but usually they can narrow down the time more than what your boyfriend had to do. Is there anyone that he could get to stay there and wait for the telephone man so he don't have to miss more work? I also hope he feels better soon.

well that is absolutely wonderful that your husband is in such good health, no nobody can stay in the house with him to make sure that the man comes, he mom is there she is old but does not want people in her house and she would be too never nervous with strangers in the house.

Oops, I forgot to answer all of the discussion question. My husband just goes to the doctor once a year and that is so he can get his prescriptions filled again for the next year for his blood pressure. The last time he went, last Tues., the doctor wanted to do blood work on him and he did. The office called here Thurs. with the results and he is in tip top shape, all numbers are great. It did surprise him, he figured all the burgers and fries he has eaten over the years had given him cholesterol problems but no way. I think part of his good heatlh is his work, he works outdoors mostly and he sweats a lot and get a whole lot of exercise pulling big wire, digging ditches, climbing ladders ... he is an electrician.

That isn't anything to mess with. I'm glad you got him to listen. You know, it must be a guy thing. When my hubby and I got married 3 1/2 years ago, he hadn't seen a doctor in years. I made him get a physical and besides being overweight (well, obese, really) which he should have known, he had diabetes II and high blood pressure. I have to remind him to take readings on his sugar and to take his meds. Grrr.

Hubby will not do regular, routine, maintenance things, but let him think something serious is wrong, off he runs to the ER. It seems to me he should be doing the opposite. You are correct, the same bacteria that infect your mouth can infect the valves of your heart. Hope he does well.

yes he will eventually go, I know he has so many things to take care of as we all do as we get older, and he can only do so many things at a time.

I'm glad you convinced him to go. Once before Walker and I got married, and even before we became engaged, he was having some problems that he would not get checked out. I inally convined him to get them looked at. Good thing, since he had pneumonia and a kidney infection. I'm glad I made him go to the hospital.

I have heard about that also. My husband had bacteria in his gums also so he had his upper teeth pulled and dentures put in. He needs to go and get his lower teeth done also but we don't have insurance or the money to do that right now. My husband always has me to make him go to the doctor, dental or hospital. He just does not want us to have a bill and I don't blame him, but his health is more important.

Hi winterose, I have no problem with my husband about it..He is very responsible of his health and sometimes I am the one who loves to procrastinate on this issue! It's great really to be attentive to one's health..That is our wealth!

yep that is the most important thing we have in our life, without our health it doesn't matter how much money we have we are too sick to spend it.

I am more or less like Matt, i resist all temptations of consulting the doctors. I keep on postponing things, neglect all the advices received from my family members and friends. Only when the pain spins out of control i take refuge to hospital. Two years back, i have been in such a situation, bleeding piles i was experiencing for one month.. and i resorted to self medication and in the end i lead to a compulsive surgery option, and i had no other go at that time.

It does take a lot for me to get my hubby to go to the docs, he is better now than he used to be though. I can convince him quicker to go now than I used to be able too, I think with us having children it helps because I use them to get him to go, I tell him that we have to look after ourselves for their sakes.

doctor's exam room - photo of doctor's examination room
Hi my friend My hubby is just like yours. I have to force him to go to the doctor when he knows he should. If he is sick or really in pain, he'll take a day off work and wait. Then the next day, he'll be sicker or in more pain, he'll take another day off work and maybe finally in the afternoon, he'll call the doctor to see if he can get in. He make me so mad! If he would have called the first day, he probably wouldn't have missed two days of work and would have been feeling much been a lot sooner. MEN! Sometimes I'd like to strangle him, but I still love him. LOL Have a nice day, Char

yep they can be so macho and not for their own good, especially if they are wasting time at home and losing money when they could find out right away what the heck is wrong with them.
