I love going to thrift stores when they are having bag sales. I get a large black garbage bag filled with jeans. I love to use jeans to make blankets, cushions, and even furniture throws. It is very strudy and lasts forever. Have you ever used old denim jeans to sew with?

I have used jeans to make quite a few things. When the kids were home there were always jeans to be mended. I kept a couple of pair of old worn jeans on hand so I could make patches to mend with. Purses are a great way to use old jeans. You use the pockets too and incorporate them into the purse.

Especially when I did day care, I made lots of throw pillows and floor pillows out of old jeans. The kids liked the ones that I left the pockets on. You can make a pocket pillow and tuck in a small toy.

About 3 years ago I founf an op shop near my place that made handbags out of jeans and they looked really good, I bought three of them to give away to friends as presents they were fantastic all fully lined, some were made in a patchwork and others just made from the jeans themselves using the pockets to fit in as the seperate pcket for keys and such...

There are not a lot of people who sew in my family, so I wouldn't know. This does sound like a good idea, though.

No, I haven't. I've seen some neat things made with jeans but I just never worked with it. It seems like it would be hard to work with because it is such a thick fabric. So IS it hard to work with? I don't sew often because I prefer to draw instead but sometimes I like to make things like dresses. Plus I don't sew very well either LOL

Yup, I've used old jeans to make purses/bags, skirts, and aprons. I think I like the aprons the best, of the things I've made. They're great for craft show vendors, because they have just as many pockets as a pair of jeans! :)

I have not done as much as I would like to. I have made bags, and in my mind I can just see a blue denim tied quilt, backed with yellow gingham. Sigh. I have always been going to do that. I love making hot pads, hot mats out of denim. I have done some patches at one time out of old denim. This may just be the inspiration I need.

I have sewed with jeans a lot , I have made purses, braided rugs, and some other stuff. I love using jeans , i just love the look of denim. I am currently planning out a design to make a denim quilt out of old jeans. Our local thrift store used to have bag sales, I hated it so much when they stopped.

Hello dear village anne. It is a good idea of yours to use the old jeans to make something else that is usable. I am still wearing my old jeans as they are so good in quality, except one that is too tight for me and is still kept in the wardrobe for some future use. Thank you so much for your being so environmental-minded. Good day.

i also love going to thrift stores and finding old clothes that i can alter to fit my own body and to sew with there is a goodwill clearance center where i live and you fill the bags up and pay for them by the pound i am a dancer so i can fit alot of skimpy little outfits in one bag so i always get alot of clothes for really cheap i am rather rough on my jeans and when they get so many holes in them that i can not patch up i just cut them up and make something else out of them i hate wasting fabric there is always something that i can make out of them
