I Need Help ...

Goldfinch Outside My Window -
Lovely little goldfinch feeding just inches from my office window. Since I put these feeders up, all sorts of birds visit throughout the day.

I haven't done much on myLot the last day or two and I need to pick up the pace, but I'm constantly distracted by the goings on outside my office window. I put up another hummingbird feeder and also a finch feeder, and the flurry of activity is amazing. I keep jumping up and grabbing the camera to catch the latest antics of my avian friends. Here is a picture of a lovely little goldfinch. How can I concentrate while seeing all this out of the corner of my eye? Are you distracted while trying to myLot? How do you overcome it?

...I'd rather be distracted by pretty hummingbirds and other such creatures of flight than just be glued to my computer all day at myLot. After all, myLot will still be here when you're done watching- plus, watching the birds will give your eyes a rest from the screen! Sometimes you need a break from myLot. Take a break, and come back feeling more refreshed than before. It works for me, anyway.

That is very true, as well. She is less likely to suffer from eyestrain if she looks away from the computer and at the bird feeders. If she is getting up and getting her camera, then she is also keeping the circulation in her legs. Healthy all the way around.

You guys are good for me, you know that? LOL ... I do need to keep writing, though, as I need the money. myLot isn't as hard to keep up with, posting a reply here and there, but I need to be doing more writing for Associated Content, which takes a bit more thought.

Great pic. Thanks for sharing it. Don't fight the distraction. Enjoy it, it is beautiful. MyLot is not going anywhere and we will help you catch up later. I totally understand. I would be distracted in the same way.

I do enjoy them and I'd be fine if I could just take a glance and get back to work, but it's so tempting to keep taking pictures and trying to get better shots.

I try to divide time. I will take an hour with the kids, hour on mylot, hour kids, hour mylot, hour cleaning, hour kids, hour mylot. That is my day with some clixsense and cash crate mixed in for laughs.

I wish I could be that disciplined, but I just can't do it. I'm here alone all day and I don't have anything that 'must' be done at a certain time.

That's a beautiful bird! I saw one of those for the first time in nearly 30 years as I had lunch outside during my temp job last week. I'm so amazed at the gorgeous birds here in Ohio, after spending all that time in Arizona--dull, ugly birds that squawked instead of singing, with sharp long beaks. The birds here are beautiful to hear as well as see! Can't help you with your distractions, I have the same thing here at my window although I don't have feeders up. It is such a pleasure to see all that beauty just outside my house! If it's not the birds, it's the dogs distracting me or having a writing assignment waiting, as I do now and I really should get off here and get to work!

I don't think we're all that far from each other, and yes, we sure do have beautiful birds here in Ohio. I haven't written anything for Associated Content for a week or more and I need to be doing that too. Someone kick me in the butt, please!

Sloooowly step away from the camera!! I have distractions outside of my windows, both at home and at work, so I understand your problem...and have no suggestions for you other than to close the blinds. But, that's the point of having the feeders out there, to be able to enjoy the birds. Hmmmmm, tough one, that's for sure.

I know. I put the feeders in this location for that very reason, so I could enjoy them. I am just going to have to find a way to discipline myself.

I also get distracted, I have a laptop, so I move to an area where I can not see outside and get to work.

My husband has a laptop, but it keeps getting heated up and shutting itself off. I was just asking him about that this morning because I need to be doing some writing for Associated Content too. I'll never get anywhere like this!

Well, I guess you either move the feeders, move closer to the window, or turn your back.. Do remind yourself that they will be there when you get done, as well. Maybe you just need a personal rule that you will only post when it is dark so there are no distracting birds.

I can't get any closer to the window, it's an arm's length away to my right. I have good peripheral vision so I can see the activity out of the corner of my eye, which makes me turn to see better.

I'm usually the opposite - myLot distracts me from my work... I come here during lunch and get a bit carried away...

Since Friday I have not really been doing a lot here as far as myLotting goes. I did start some Discussions about my weekend and that was it. I responded to just a few friends discussions also. But I have not had the urge like usual to be on here. Not that I am distracted but just not into it for some reason. Maybe it's that I miss all the drama? Hahahaha! Thanks. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

I have enough drama right here at home without more at myLot. I need a break every now and then and I guess I'll just count that as my latest break. Now back to work!

Move your computer away from the window. Close the shades. Concentrate on what you are doing. Quit putting hummingbird feeders up. Hide the camera. LOL LOL Ok, one more...........Wear a pair of blinders so you can not see out of the corners of your eyes. hehehehehe

I would probably have to do all of the above! I do enjoy the breeze coming in the window, though, and it would be very dark and dreary here with the blinds closed. I guess I'm 'stuck' with the distraction.

I get distracted with my other money making sites or a neat game I come across on the computer.I try to stay focused but I admit it is hard. And I am sure it is hard when you get to see all the pretty birds come to the bird feeder. My dad used to have hummingbird feeder and we would watch them come and go.

I am easily distracted by other things here on the computer when I should be writing, but these birds distract me from everything here. They sure are pretty, though, and quite entertaining. I shouldn't complain, I just need to be more disciplined.

I'm having a hard time lately focusing on things including mylot. My head seems to be a whir of distractions, never settling on one thing. I think somethings bugging me but I haven't figured out what. When i do...everything will settle down. Otherwise when i cant focus on something i take a break from it.

It's been unbearably hot here the last few days which hasn't helped me any. We did get a good downpour last night which cooled things off a bit until mid-morning anyway.

what a beautiful bird ! looks unreal. if this is new flurry of activity...don't resist. enjoy and work. work and enjoy. it will even out in the end. those feeders attract the most amazing birds so it WOULD be hard to resist them. my cats weave in and out of my office all day long. i'm not sure if it's the a/c i have (finally) in here, or they miss me. they come in loudly announcing themselves for a pet and some love. or, quietly with just a cold nose on the back of my calf.

I knew we had hummingbirds in the area, so I put that feeder up a few weeks ago and have been enjoying them. I haven't had seed for the birds for a while, but last week I had this purple finch that kept trying to get something from the hummingbird feeder, it was quite comical to watch. I broke down and bought him some seed and then another feeder, and now I've had all sorts of creatures out there since.

That's cool. Maybe you could earn money posting you photos. Or get inspired to write something on mylot because of the things you see outside. I dont really get distracted FROM mylot, i get distracted BY mylot. hehehehe. i post and respond in mylot even when i'm in the office. it's kinda like a stress-buster for me. i write in mylot to keep myself sane. hehehehe.

Wow your doing a multitasking job in there. Taking pictures of the birds then coming to submit pictures for your post. That is really an awesome thing to do. I do not think that is a distraction at all but rather enhancing your way you submit topics in here.

The window is right here beside me so I keep the camera handy. When I see them out of the corner of my eye I grab it and snap. But yes, it's still distracting when I should be writing to earn some money!

You are so lucky. I found bird feeders at Dollar Tree, so I put my thistle food in it. I am still waiting for the gold finches to come. I think they haven't showed up because it has been so hot here in Maryland. We even moved the birdbath back to the backyard near the bird feeders. I'm hoping I don't have to wait too long!

I was going to buy one of those thistle socks, but it was even more expensive than this feeder, so I bought it instead. It does have the inserts so you can use for thistle or regular seed. I had a bag of the smaller finch food on hand so that's what I put in it and they love it, as do most of the rest of the birds around. The word has got out and I've got sparrows, cardinals and mourning doves eating from it now too, or at least the seed that spills out.

Aww--don't beat yourself up in not getting much done on a computer while you're having nature's show perform for you...your work on a computer you can do anytime, but seeing nature's activity is something precious...as the saying goes..stop and smell the roses....in this stop and watch the birdies..LOL I actually am distracted today, but for another reason...I purposely stayed home today as I'm waiting for a delivery by UPS..every time I hear something that sounds remotely like a truck I leap up to look out the window to see if it's them...It's 5:31 and they still haven't arrived....grrrrrr...I could've gone out but figured....nope, the moment I leave that's when they would deliver.

I've got dozens of decent pictures and I keep telling myself to enjoy it now and the novelty will wear off, but I can't stop checking on them. There has been non-stop activity out there, sometimes one species, other times 3 or 4 different types.

I have the dog who wants to go in and out all day long. He thinks the front door is a revolving door and I am always jumping up to let him in or out. Mostly I am distracted though by all the work I have to do in this place. I always have to get up to put something away or to clean something. What I try to do though is do either 5 or ten responses and then do something else. Then I go back to it after I take a break to do something else.

Hi my friend Unfortunately I don't have a window anywhere near my office but there are other things that distract me. I seem to get in a great writing mode and then the dogs will want to go out, they want attention, the phone rings etc. Drives me nuts. On the other hand, MyLot is distracting me alot! I need to listen to a live chat for college and a knowledge check is due at midnight I know I probably spend too much time on here, but hey, I like it!! Well, got to do some school work and then I can come back and play. lol Happy MyLotting, Char

I'm at home, and this window is only a length away from my right arm, so it is hard to not notice them. I spend most of my time here so I put the feeders there specifically so I could enjoy the birds, but now I wonder if that was a good idea.

If you have trouble in using the laptop and do not like to close the blinds, you may turn your desk around, and then you can sit back to the window, in this way you won't see them, and perhaps won't be distracted. Good luck!

This is a small room and my husband's desk is in here too, so there's not much room for rearranging things. And I put the feeders there so that I could enjoy them while working here, but there are times when I need to pay attention to what's going on here rather than out the window. A nice distraction, though.
