I am so embarrassed and frustrated with myself!!

There is a little piece of metal going from our kitchen into the hallway that has come loose and my husband just noticed it this morning. As he was getting ready to leave to go to work he told me "Be careful walking through there, you and the kids, and I'll fix it when I get home tonight." I assured him I would tell Amanda and Stuart and that we would be careful. Well after he left I fed Wilbur, our cat, and as I was walking through the kitchen going toward the bathroom to wash my hands what did I do but forget about that piece of metal, tripped on it, bumped into the heater on the wall and fell to the floor!! I was so mad at myself!! Bless her heart, I had to wake Amanda up to help me get out of the floor because I have trouble with my knees and legs and I always have to have help if I fall. Thankfully her bedroom was right there next to where I fell so I was able to wake her easily.
I am okay from the fall except for my right ankle hurting some. I'm more embarrassed than anything. I have heard it said that more accidents happen at home than usual and I believe that because it isn't the first time I have fell here at home. AAAGGHH!!
Thanks for listening and have a wonderful day!!!

Yes I would have been embarrassed like you did if some told me of something wich in your case your husband told you of the metal stripping and to be careful and you ended up tripping over it anyway going about's your normal duties. It good you had your daughter's room right there for her to assist you like she did. I would have used duct tape tohold it against the wall until he was able to fix it where I know I am forgetful and would have done the same as you have. I hope he got the piece fixed and this dosn't happen again. I hope your ankel feel better soon for that is a bad place to hurt yourself especially where you have to walk on it. Good luck and try to be extra careful take care. :)

Oh you poor thing. I can completly feel your pain! A year and a half ago I fell in a parking lot. I was leaving a tax class and had two more meetings to attend so I stopped to pick up some pizzas next door to my class so i could take them home and we could eat then I could leave for my meetings...Well I had two pizzas, my purse, bookbag, and I was wearing heals. Talking to my friend as we were walking along to the car I didn't see the small pothole but my heal found it and I was down. I couldn't bear weight on it and two guys (strangers) had to help me up and help me to the car. I got home and was still in pretty bad pain. I went to my meetings should have stayed home cause after the meetings I couldn't bear wieght at all on my left ankle. Got up the next morning and fell again in my room cause I still couldn't bear weight. Went to the ER and they put a splint on it said it was a real bad sprain. I was in the splint for 6 weeks then in a brace for 2 months after that. Still have problems with the ankle today. I was so freakin' embarrased cause of all the coworkers that saw me fall.

Good Morning!! Oddly enough my ankle didn't bother me anymore the next day except for being just a tad bit stiff. I took an Ibuprofen before I went to bed Friday night and I'm sure that helped. My husband got the metal piece fixed so we all feel much better now. :) Have a wonderful day!!

hi SheliaLee wow I am glad you did not get badly hurt,
its so easy to trip over something. I have done it myself
and as Iam here allalone I had to get myself up by myself
which was a big problem as I have a bad leg and a bad
left arm due to a shoulder joint replacement. I fell two years ago but it was not at home, it was in front of my favorite'
restaurant, I tripped over my brace, lost my balance and landed on my left shoulder. I smashed the bones in my shoulder so]
badly that I had surgeryto remove the smashed bone and put in a plastic and metal shoulder joint. now I am so careful about
anything I could trip over in our apartment.

We are going to need to start a club for people who just fall. I had a discussion about my fall earlier this summer. It is embarrassing but it happens. Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation for that ankle, Sheila Lee, and take it real easy for awhile.

My husband got the strip nailed down Saturday morning and none of us have had anymore problems from it. My ankle is much better now also. I really appreciate all the responses from you and everyone else. Have a terrific day!!

I am glad you are okay....when I first moved into this house I had carpet squares for carpet in the upstairs....well one came loose and my son tried to hammer it down best he could. I had on some little slippers and I stepped off the top step, went to take another step and it was caught. I fell head first down the stairs. I tried to catch myself and the plaster on the wall took all the skin off one arm and when I landed at the bottom of the steps I got the wind knocked out of me...I believe that most accidents do happen at home....because you are so used to your home you don't think....LOL

Don't be so hard on yourself. Things happen that we can't help. Glad you didn't hurt yourself too badly and that Amanda was near by to help you up. Just be careful the rest of the day until your husband can get the piece fixed and don't take any more tumbles to the floor. Take care.

Ouch! I'm sorry you tripped and got hurt, but I'm glad it didn't end up worse than it could have been.
To prevent it happening again, can you put something larger over or near the piece that is sticking up, something that you will see easier and know to be more careful?

Good Morning!! You are right and I am thankful it wasn't any worse. That is an excellent idea of putting something to notice more. That will work until my husband can hammer a nail into it tonight. I've also got to remember to try to be less clumsy LOL!!

Good Morning! The piece of metal was some stripping that holds the carpet down going from one room to another. This piece was between my kitchen and the hallway. My husband has fixed it though so things are all right now. :) Have a wonderful day!!

sorry to hear about your fall and yes I can understand why you would be embarrased but try not to be. We all get acustomed to how things are layed out in our house and when something is missing, moved or so forth, we tend to forget as we aren't used to it. That's how the majority of household accidents happen. Try not to worry about it. Just ice your ankle and please don't baby it as it will cease up.
Take care of yourself! and give your daughter a hug for being so helpful!

it is always true that accidents are more when at home. hehe. i have a lot myself.but it takes really effort to be so careful next time. trying to do things right and perfectly. try to focus on the things that really matters and be sensitive to the instructions and possible danger that you might be facing at the moment. have the presence of mind for always. it is not always that someone would watch after you. not that i am scolding you, i am just reminding you of your great responsibility.. hehe.. who knows, the danger you might face next time is more than you expected. so be very careful ms sheila.. i do care
