I had to get a new monitor

Ticked me off, my 19" Sceptre was only 8 years old! Went to Best Buy today and got a 17" for $130, an HP. Not a bad price, I guess. I just couldn't work with a monitor that was constantly going black and they agreed that it was on its last legs. Well, another thing my ex gave me is out of the way so that's a good thing!
Thanks to everyone for trying to help and the advice you gave!

Cry me a river, dragon. All my conversations you join and I missed yours. I'm not surprised, mylot experiences are spotty. Something always gets in the way of staying in touch.
I think you know a hacker trashed both of my computers. I only got the laptop fixed and didn't bother with the desk top. Partly because I can't afford it, and partly because I dropped the monitor and ripped the soft screen. It's a challenge to use it.
I know the monitor has to be replaced. Now, when I get ready, I learned from this discussion I can go to Best Buy.
I like that part about getting rid of everything from your ex, even if it costs money. One of the reasons it was so hard to live with my ex was because he never turned off the tv's when he was home.
The noise drove me bonkers! I joked around, telling him he could always say we got divorced because of the television!
You know what? The crummy guy didn't let me take any of the three tv sets. I borrowed one for awhile, then bought a cheap one off the shelf at K-Mart. I had to sell that one when I moved. I still don't have a tv.
Dumb ex's, computers and tvs. Sorry I got going on my story~!

OH, that's fine!! I know what you mean about the TV, from the time he came in the door till after he went to bed, that damned thing was blaring. The biggest he could find! He let me and the kids have the big one and I thought that was nice of him till I learned he borrowed money from a friend to buy the biggest flatscreen he could get!
So what? He began his new life in debt, ha ha! What a shame. Anyway, my son moved here with me but only stayed a couple of months and we brought that big 36" behemoth because he wanted to. I just had it moved up into the living room--Mom and I were watching a little 16" I got for $50 at Walmart.
I don't normally watch much tv, maybe 3 hours a week, but Mom loves baseball! She's really enjoying that huge screen! I've learned to disassociate it from my ex and when I do think of him when I see it, I remember how silly he was to borrow money when he could've made do with this wonderful tv and great picture!Oh, another thing...he always had surround sound hooked up to it and you could hear it 300 feet from our house! Well, here I've gone on and one and you with a dicey monitor!
Sorry to bend your "ear", but I love swapping ex stories. Even the ones about their good points (cos they're so short)!
I hope you get a good monitor soon, sometimes Goodwill has them--people get rid of them because they get new ones and don't want the perfectly good old ones. Also, look on freecycle dot org and choose your area. It's for people who want to give away things they don't need and they're not allowed to charge!

Dragon - speaking of ex stories. His TV had surround sound as well. No matter where you went in the house, it blasted in your ears. I even bought headphones in defense.
My ex loved baseball as well. And WW2 movies. Do you know how many WW2 movies there are? At least two every night of the week.
He had a big problem with credit card debts too! I bailed him out once by refinancing my house.
After we separated, he started using the joint credit card the next day, even though he promised he wouldn't. I know, because I called Capitol One.
I had to take my name off the card, and that messed up my credit. It took a few years, but I now have a near perfect credit score and I don't have any debts at all. Well, okay, I'm paying off the Jeep the last guy encouraged me to buy.
It sounds like you're very close to your mom.
Thanks for the tip on the free computer monitor.

Glad you were able to get a good monitor. I have an HP and have had zero problems. Good luck with it.

That's good to hear! I've heard lots of complaints about HP printers and such and had reservations about the monitor but the price was right and if it lasts a year, it'll be worth it!

Congratulations on the new monitor. I hope it works great for you. Boy, 8 years old isn't really that old, either. I think mine is older than that, but I'm not sure.

The computer geeks there told me I got a lot of wear out of it and that monitors are usually good for five years. So I was pleased, in the end. But still--only 8 years from something you spend a couple hundred on?!
