Me, I don't wash it in the washing machine unless I already do it by hand. Most white socks the dirt is so obvious. The washing machine can not clean it very well. So, I used to soak it with water and bleach and wash it by hand. What about you? do you have any idea how to wash white socks? do you wash it by hand or are you using the machine? is there any difference about the result?

well, what I mean is.. to take away the dirt..I hand wash them.. so that I can brush or scratch the dirt off properly using my hand.. Washing machine is not that effective to wipe off the dirt.

Sure I hear what you are saying but I still just bung it in the washer. I put my whites on a hot wash to help get the washing clean. If I have a stain on something then I will try and remove it by hand before I put it in the wash but only where the stain is not the garment!

White socks always seem to go yellowy, its the nylon content in them im sure, but if I have white socks to wash thwn I dont ever wash them with the coloureds,I will stick them in a net bag, which keeps them all together and saves any chance of them twisting there way around the machine drum, and then I stick the bag of socks in with the whites, and all is well.

The only thing that get's washed in my house by hand is those that require it. I think the detergent you use makes a major differnce. I think that because the stuff I used to use worked great. But since the box is packed away at the moment I am using a different brand that doesn't seem to work as well. Although it might be the washing machine I am using as well.

it makes a difference when i wash the white socks by hand than by just dumping it in the washing. The dirt is hard to removed specially in the sole part of the socks. Dirt in the White socks are really hard to remove. right now I am washing white socks. I soak it and do the hand wash later after mylotting.

Hi Bebs, I just wash it in the machine since it's not very dirty...I mean no stain etc! I just hand wash some of my tops as well as white pants and underwear! but if very dirty, I will bleach it wait like 3 minutes soaking then wash!

Well, that's what I do too when the sock is not so dirty, I will just dump it in the washing together with some other stuff but when it is so dirty, specially the white ones, I usually wash it by hand.. soak it first with bleach and wash it by hand.

I also do not wash socks whether white or colored in the washing machine because indeed washing machine is not that efficient to clean tough dirts. And besides, I also want to protect the socks because washing machine can destroy the form. When there are tough dirts, I would soak them first for 15 minutes with "Ariel" washing detergent. It is very effective to tough dirts. Then I can easily wash out the dirt by my hands. I also do the same for my undies and my husband's and son's underwear too. Have a nice day!

Oh yeah, that's what I'm doing for the white socks, shirts and undies. Specially the collar of the shirts, it will not be cleaned if you just used the washing machine to clean that area.

I'm pretty lazy, so I just toss it in the washing machine. Also I don't separate colors and whites (I don't use bleach at all). Yeah, I blame it on me being a college student, but that just is another way of me saying I'm lazy.

Just like you, I felt lazy sometimes but I don;t like to see the white sock still dirty after washing.. that is when I just dump them in the washing machine. I will do it again by hand. so in order to save time and energy, I just wash the white socks by hand.
