This is a photo of our Sunday dinner. It is called Hobo Stew. It has a lot of my homegrwon veggies in it. Sweet corn, green peppers, banana peppers, zuchinni, carrots, onions, garlic, potatoes, tomaotes, green beans, a lot of butter, some water, and various spices added. Then it is wrapped in foil tightly and placed on a BBQ grill for about 45 minutes or so. This was so tasty and easy to make not to mention cheap as most was picked from my garden. Have you ever had or made Hobo Stew? Does it sound/look good to you? HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

I don't think I have ever heard of Hobo Stew but it does sound very good and easy to make. That stew is just right for you and others like you who have your home grown veggies to use, that makes it taste even better.

That sounds wonderful and so yummy. I had a yummy dinner too yesturday. I went to my family reunion. Its for the Miami Indians of Indiana, I am a member if the tribe. We had 9 picnic tables filled with food and 50 tables filled with people, I estimate well over 200 people were there. It was a nice time, good good and good people.

I never heard of hobo stew but did hear of bq veggies. Thats what we called it. My hubby cuts up onions, green peppers, carrots and potatoes and puts it all in foil and puts it on the grill. I love it that way. Yours looks very tasty.

Let's see, I like corn, garlic, potatoes, and tomatoes. I can eat green beans but only certain kinds. I guess I could make it with just those veges...lol. I'm sure it's good though for people who like all that stuff.

Adding the butter and water makes all the veggies very soft. So the beans are not crunchy. Can make it with any veggies you prefer actually. best on a BBQ grill though. The juices flow through them better than in an oven. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

We made on like this in Girl Scouts, not so many veggies, too bad. It consisted of a patty of ground beef, with potatoes, onions, and carrots. Salt and pepper, then a big glob of catsup on it. Seal the foil, cook on the campfire. They called it hobo stew as well. It was for a whole meal. I would love to try your veggie version.

Oh yes, I've had this many times but I bake it in the oven instead of grill it. But grilling does sound better so I may try that next time.

Grilling it makes the veggies more juicy actually from the butter and water added. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB!!~

That's different from the Hobo Stew we used to have, where we put all the week's leftovers into a pot and made stew--meat, vegetables, even leftover pudding! It was always interesting. That sounds like a great idea, Grandpa. Thanks, I'm going to try it soon!

Looks great!!! Add a little hamburger patty or some cubed beef and it will be extraordinary (unless you've got the meat served on the side separately or you're a vegetarian). You know - I've known about these, but in all my life, even with Girl Scouts and going camping as a kid and with MY kids, I've never eaten one! It's time to change that.

nahhhh! No meat. This is why it is called Hobo Stew. The cheapness and quickness of it. No meat just an all veggie meal. BBQ it if you do though. They are much better that way than in an oven. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

That is true - they don't often have meat (although I made a loaf's worth of ham and cheese sandwiches for a camp once), but you never know when they might just snag a squirrel or a trout from the nearby stream! LOL

Man-O-Man that sounds so good. I can see making that very often.I do not have a grill right now. But I think that I can make that up in a frying pan with trouble at all! What times dinner?

it sounds quite good to me, but more often than not, my hubby will not eat meatless meals (i do try and sneak one in every so often!) but your stew would be good over some rice with a bit of chicken in it :-)

This actually similar to something I make in the crockpot, called Hamburger Stew. You fry up a lb of hamb drain. 1st in the crockpot goes carrots, then potatoes, then I add whatever (onion, corn, gr bns, peas, celery) then the cooked hamb.& on top S&P and a can of cream of tomato soup a bit of water and cook all day on low, great with fresh baked bread! If I happen to use a can of some veggie, instead of fresh or froz, I add it liquid and all, but I would not do that if I used 2 different canned vegs, that might be too much liquid.

it looks and sounds wonderful ! yes, i've heard of and made hobo stew. not on a grill which can only add to the great flavors. why is it that home grown veggies taste so much different and more flavorful? nothing better than home grown. even a tomato sandwich is enough of a meal for me ! will you be canning? if there's enough left?
