I was responding to a discussion how even though one might be a good speller, there are always a few pesky words that one always seems to misspell. Well I was reading through the other responders to the discussion and just learned something. Now I don't know if Internet Explorer has this feature, but whenever you spell a word wrong and you're using Firefox, which I do, the misspelled word is underlined in red. Okay THAT I knew. What I didn't know was this. If you catch a word that is underlined in red, meaning misspelled, if you click on the word and right click a dialog box crops up with the right spelling
Well I have a Mac computer...our mouse is left click only...to do any of the right clicking type methods, one has to know which key to press and left click. So I gave is a shot. I purposely misspelled a word...clicked Control and left clicked, and holy moly, sure enough a dialog box cropped up with the right spelling...not only that, but when you click on the right spelling of the word in the dialog box, it automatically corrects the word in the sentence!
Like duh? I DIDN'T KNOW THIS!
Okay please tell me I'm not the only one to just discover this feature...did you know about it? Do you constantly learn new things about your computer even though you might want to think your a computer geek?

Very nice when we learn something new, eh? Technology is great! And as we learn we continue to grow. Thank you for sharing this with us all.

I don't think Internet explorer has that.....and it would be a good feature to have. So many times I think I have spelled something wrong but there is not spell check here so it's up to my trusty dictionary...and that is a pain sometimes. But it would very nice to have this feature!

Hi.
This feature is quite commomn in many a software and is formaly known as the spellcheck. Most of the word processor these days incorporate this spellcheck feature. You can even disable it in Firefox.
I knew about it since long but at times I do feel that I should have known about this thing and found out something new in systems.

Yes, I know something like Office word has the spellcheck feature...unfortunately since I have a Mac computer I don't have that....so find the correct spelling this way is really convenient

Gee Pye, I like Safari. My husband and I share computers, so for sanities sake he uses firefox and I use Safari. I like Safarie way better then I ever did IE. I like Camino too. I had that installed back a while ago.

I knew about this, and that is one reason I like Firefox. It does not have everything in its dictionary, so if it tells you you are wrong, and you look it up and have a correction, you can add it to the dictionary. Yes, I am constantly learning new things when I take the time to.

That's ok. For a long time, up until 2005 I thought Internet Explorer was the only browser option available to internet users. Talk about being in the dark..lol
I first got Mozilla FireFox towards the end of 2005 and believe once installed it gave a thing about how to use it and about the nifty features and what not that could be done within it.
I love how it has it's own spelling check of sorts, but there are times that even with the word underlined that I either miss it, or totally space out on how to get the thing to pop up..lol.
I try to learn something new about my computer daily. Especially since my brother-in-law sent us a new one for both mine and my husband's birthday present. I was so use to Windows 98, that it's like I'm on an alien planet with Windows XP. So it's been a learning experience for me these last few weeks.

I've never used the Safari browser, but have heard it wasn't all that great. Same goes for Internet Explorer. Sometimes, it seemed, all it would take is one wrong look at Internet Explorer and the darned thing would crash. Still have the same problem with my new computer, not as bad, but it still has it's problems. If I could I would entirely do away with Internet Explorer all together, but well there are still some sites out there that still require a person to be using Internet Explorer otherwise can't get access to them.

Wow, I didn't know that either! I knew about the red underline thing but always just fixed the word myself (usually a typo and not that I didn't know how to spell it, but still).
What a neat feature! I will definitely remember to use this if the need arises.

I don't know how to use Mac, but I do know Firefox has the spellcheck built in. My problem is that it corrects American English to British English and I don't know how to get it to change back to our dialect. I pretty much know that words like honor, favor, flavor, color, etc., don't have a "u" in the US, but there are some other words that I'm not as sure about and I don't know if the British version is the same as the US version or not. I'm a pretty good speller, but on those few, I tend to "wing" it.

WONDERFUL feature is it not??? Yes, I already had learned that. I LOVE it because I don't have to create in Word & then copy & paste to myLot!!! Yes, I'm ALWAYS learning something new with my computer. That's why I NEVER claim to be a Know-it-All. Did you notice that, if it's a word you use frequently & it's not in their dictionary, you can add it to your dictionary??? OK, now I'm being a Know-it-All!!!

I downloaded it today to have a look, but found it a bit confusing (i.e., not intuitive). Maybe if I read the notes?

Oh I'm always learning new things about my computer. Now my old one I knew inside out upside down and backwards but then I had it for 9 years and grew-up with it :) New laptop with XP I got 2 years ago is a whole new world for me. And at one time I actually taught teachers, students, and school staff how to use the school computers :)

Maybe the reason I'm still learning is that I learned computers on a PC system...when I decided to get my Mac computer I had to learn/teach myself all over again as there are a lot of differences...It's funny too...sometimes one of my friends (who is a bit computer phobic) will ask me to show her how to do something on her laptop..then sheesh, have to remember working on a PC all over again.

I am glad you shared the information. I have used it a couple of times since. It IS a lot easier than finding the right tab and typing it again just so I can find the correct spelling. Thanks again for sharing.
