It happened while trying to veiw a movie that contained Subtitles Roger Ebert got into a scuffle.Ebert says the man in front of him was leaning out into the aisle, obstructing the view. After battling thyroid and salivary gland cancer, Ebert, 66, can no longer speak. So, he explained, he simply tapped the man – a critic for a New York newspaper. After repeated attempts to get the man's attention, the fellow turned around and "whacked me with a rolled-up program or a festival binder or something," Ebert wrote. Staff at the theatre moved the man to another seat. I couldn't believe this! Wouldn't you think that the guy would be asked to leave?

At the very least the man should have been asked to leave the theater. I would have smacked him back for sure had it been me.

Yes, I think he should have been asked to leave. However, unfortunately, Ebert might have to come to expect this sort of thing. People often don't like to be touched and you have no idea before you do it if someone will be 'set off.'

Wow, I am surprised he wasn't ask to leave for doing something like that. Maybe they just didn't want trouble cause if they made him leave then he could have caused them more trouble then what it would have been worth.

My god, wouldn't you think the man would have known it was Robert Ebert! The man is well known everywhere. Seems to me the man may have actually known exactly who he was, and maybe his intention all along was to get him P/Oed. If he wasn't aware of who he smacked, I bet he must be kicking himself in the butt now. As for the fact of him just being moved to another seat, is outragous, esspecially concidering who it was he had smacked. You would think the fact he smacked a movie Critic, and Robert Ebert nonetheless, they would have removed him.

Yes. I would get that guy out of there since he cannot be polite to others. I think they should escort him out immediately.
