I am asthmatic and I support banning smoking all over the place. However, smoking is extremely addictive and most people just can't quit in a drop of a hat like they can quit eating chocolate cake or something. So, warning them isn't going to do anything at all. Most of them know it's a bad thing to do.

yea. I play a sport and when parents are sitting on the side to watch their children play. It's really hard and frustrating as an athlete to have to breathe it in. It's hard enough constantly running up and down the field. Smoking should be like drinking. Be able to smoke at a place and hang out or just do it at home.

Smoking shouldn't be regulated by the government. Public places most of all shouldn't be regulated. If someone is walking down the street and (s)he decides to smoke, then so be it. If I don't want to be around it, I'll move somewhere else. Restaurants, bars, and other privately owned businesses shouldn't be told what their patrons are allowed to do or not do, that should be up to the owner(s). Whatever happened to individuals making their own decisions? If you don't like being around something, don't subject yourself to it. It's pretty simple.

As you have mentioned, it's a public place, so you have to maintain yourselves such that you do not cause problems to your fellow citizens who also are using that place just like you. So it should be banned and people who are found in offense should be given a very heavy punishment like levied with a heavy fine or imprisonment. Smoking is a very bad addiction. People who start smoking once and get addicted to it, find it hard to fall out of that pattern. So we have to take measures especially against friends who smoke. bourne

In the UK there is already a ban on smoking in enclosed public places. As an asthmatic I feel that it should be a ban in all public places, outside and inside. There was an outcry from a lot of smokers when it happened but statistics show that smoking related illnesses have dropped dramatically since the ban. The National Health Service here has a lot of help for smokers who want to give up and provide advice and free nicotine patches.

All my childhood i had adds for various smoking and boozing products slapped all over every program that i watched! Now they try and tell me that i cant smoke in a pub because its bad for my health!? they didnt care about that when they were bringing the money in from tax's though, did they? Now that they have realised that smoking actualy COSTS them money, threw the nhs etc, they try to ban it! I think its stupid and wave my middle finger at them all for making this law pass. you fools told me to buy this stuff and now you tell me not to? The government needs to grow up!

I HATE people like you who offer unsolicited advice to me regarding my choice to smoke. I DO support NOT smoking in public places, but keep your suggestions to yourself if you are not asked for them.

well i totally support a smoking ban in enclosed public places. here where i'm from, smoking is banned in all restaurants' indoor seating, air-conditioned buildings and public transportation. however, as a smoker, i really don't want to see a total ban on smoking in public places. afterall, it's open space and smokers usually huddle in one corner. as for the health issue, the worst thing for a person's health is actually vehicle exhaust fumes. so i guess we'll just have to learn to live with these for the time being. cheers ;p

I believe when people smoke they are thinking about themselves and no one else. The know now more than ever that second hand smoke is the most deadly. However, people smoke like they have a right to pollute my air. PLEASE IF YOU ARE A SMOKE STOP KILLING PEOPLE!

Oh yes, its a very good step Govt. has taken. I firmly support this decision because in this way passive smokers will have relief who for no reason have to inhale smoke .

Of course yes. Smoking in public places must be banned because it is very unethical to do it in public. Its just like you were brushing your teeth in front of the public and it is very disgusting.

I think smoking in public is very disrespectful, not only unhealthy. I'm a smoker myself but I don't do it in public, I do it in the privacy of my bathroom with the faucet running so i won't kill myself from suffocation. Specially in front of children, I'm a little embarrassed when children see me smoking, but it's my only way of releasing stress. I know it's a lame excuse but it's the truth. Sorry!!!

yes! because many people were affected when somebody lights and smoke. young, old, or even children can smell the smoke of ciggarets. i think they should smoke at home. not in the public. so we can help our nature. the ozone layer is very thin already. i suggest that they banned smoking in the public places.

I am all for no smoking in public. I like to go out and enjoy a public place without smelling like an ash tray. I can't breath around the garbage and I sincerely believe they anything that a person can smoke, should be made illegal. A bit brash, yes, but such is life.

I don't think there's a ban on smoking here in my country. Although I wish there was one! It would be better for everyone if there were public rooms for smoking purposes. Smokers can mingle with one another and they won't pollute the air nor endanger others' health. However, I do respect smokers' habits so I never try to give them unsolicited advice. I'm sure they know that smoking is bad. But there are circumstances like peer pressure and stress that can cause people to puff on a ciggy once in a while.

I absolutely support the bans on smoking in public places. Smoking is a bad habit and hazardous to our health. We cannot control those people who want to smoke, but we can avoid ourselves from being second hand smokers. I think there should be more bans and strict warnings on smoking is not allowed in public places.

yes, i support it. i think it's right to ban no smoking in publics, that is a envoironmental protect.it's should supported by the whole world. because it always makes the publics not clean and make the air bad. i hate the persons who sees no smoking, but still smoking, they never pay attention to the ban, they never think of others. they poluted the envoirnment seriously. everybody should stand up and alert all smokers who smoker in public place, that's our duty.

I too agree with you. They are spoiling our health also. Let them do whatever they want. But they have to do in their own places where they are the ones who are affected. They don't have any rights to spoil our health. I wish this rule to stay forever. This rule has been brought so many times I guess. But they never exist so long because of bribery. Lets hope atleast this time it must stay forever. Happy mylotting.

As a smoker I'd say that they should ban smoking in some places like hospitals, schools, places where smoking can cause serious damage... but on the other on trains buses or coffee houses they should make special places for smokers and non smokers... I mean you can't ban everything that annoys some... :) have a nice day :)
