I am trying so hard to declutter the house before winter time , I am having a hard time though, because when I get one room done the other rooms look worse. I really need some tips. I did one room today and did pretty good, I found all of my candle making stuff! But now the next room is worse. I need to get rid of so much. I am thinking of freecycling it all!!!!!

That's about all you can do it one room at a time. Otherwise it would just drive you batty! I need to get started doing some decluttering, too. I have too much stuff. I can't believe all the stuff that one person can accumulate in nearly a year's time. Freecycle? You mean give away??

Oh Yeah. That's cool that you found your candlemaking stuff. Now you can make us a candle for Christmas presents.

We want to redo out bath and kitchen and are going thru the same thing. I just seem to keep moving things from one room to the next. I did start a box of kitchen stuff for freecycle also. And I gave away a whole set of the butterfly pattern on Corelle that I have had for eons.

Wow You are doing every room in your house. I don't have the determination. But I do have to do something as well cause my house is tiny and we have WAY to much stuff. I just look at it this way if it hasn't been used in a few months then it is not going to get used.... Good luck, soon it will be my turn...

I always start in areas that DO NOT get touched by the kids. I have a small apartment, so I can be done in a weekend. I'll start with my closet. Rearrange and make everything neat. Get rid of what i don't need, and take out what doesn't belong (like toys that were taken away!). Everything that I take out goes in it's spot or room. Things to be given away are put right in my trunk, and things to be sold are put neatly in the garage. Then I'll usually organize the kitchen, and after that the bathroom. Once the entire apartment is spotless, I'll tackle the kids' rooms. Whenever you finish a room, lock it or block it off until you're done. If you have a craft room or spare room, never put something in it unless it has a spot. Do the same with each room. One thing I find motivating is to keep the beds made, and the kitchen clean. For whatever reason, if my kitchen stays clean, the rest follows. Good luck!

My problem is I can't part with anything LOL. I just try to organize the clutter I have. I have started one room at a time. I will only do one room a day. Otherwise I would pull my hair out and it would NEVER get done. Good Luck!!!!

One room at a time is the best way to declutter your home. I think another thing that you can do is to buy a bunch of those plastic storage bins, the ones that are see thru so you can put some items in them and neatly stack them on shelves. They'll be out of the way, items won't be all over the house and you can easily see what is in them before you dig through them. Or, you can type up what is in the box and attack the paper to the inside or outside of the lid for easier item finding.

I also do one room at a time. It works out pretty good. I might get two or three rooms done in a day's time. Or I can take my time and do one room per day. I have been cleaning out a lot lately. I also find things I thought I had lost.
