Well this shot is the last of my ripe veggies I feel.
These were picked Thursday. We still have not gotten frost though so my green tomatoes are good to go on the vines. My green peppers still have a few small ones that also will be good. But these needed to be picked right away. I will miss my gardening chores etc all fall and winter. But then again, I have the snow shoveling to look forward to. Are you ready for snow and cold?

Hello Grandpa Bob. Cold weather visits your place so soon that you have to start to get in all of the ripe food right now. Yeah, I can still remember how hard you worked to shovel the snow on the road next to your house and the picture with it. We had a snow disaster early this year, namely in early February that we suffered six days of having no electricity when it was so cold. I hope that we will have a good winter without any disaster. Best wishes to you, Grandpa Bob.

Oh I'll have more photos this winter for you.
I think we are due for a heavy snow season this year.
Haven't had a lot of snow for a few years now.
It's been years since losing power due to heavy snow.
I lose my satellite signal for my TV a lot in snowstorms though.

I just saw in the shops last week the tomatoe plants are being sold, so I thought I had better get my big pots fixed up for my new tomato plants for this year, I like to have cherry tomatoes, I didn't do too well with the normal size last year so i am going to just stick with the cherry ones this year...

We had a wide variety of tomatoes including grape and cherry.
Those both are great for salads etc.

Where I live we hardly ever see snow here. A few years ago though we did have a white Christmas and it was beautiful. First white Christmas I have ever had living in south Texas.
Have you ever thought of building a green house for your winter gardening?

That picture looks great! I bet your garden produced quite a bit this summer. What all did you plant and how did you process all of it? I know that the snow will add to your fall/winter chores. I always order lots of seed magazines and drool over what to order for the spring when I have cabin fever! Our garden turned out bad this year and I am hoping that next year it will be much better! I am going to try to plant some cherry tomatoes and a cuke and some pepper plants and some herbs inside this winter with a grow light.

Yeah I had a decent sized garden this year compared to usual.
Next year I have a couple more areas plotted out for even more.
I had sweet corn, zuchinni squash, cucumbers, pickles, onions,
bell peppers, banana peppers, about a dozen tomato plants including
a grape and cherry tomato, green beans, the usual grapes, apples,
and strawberries as well. I hacked my red rasberry bushes down last
year to spread them and only got a couple pints this year.
I think thats about all. We ate most of the produce.
Some is taken to my wifes restaraunt for the menu there.

My mum picked the last of the runner beans earlier this week and that was it, the end of the vegetables, we have had a good year for them, the only thing that failed was corn on the cob but we didn't have the heat for that to grow, but we've been successful with a lot of vegetables which we've enjoyed. The temperature has radically dropped now and with sure signs of frost we can say goodbye to the fruits of our labour until next year as we settle for winter. We hardly ever get snow in the UK so we won't have the same problem of having to shovel it!

We took out the last of the tomato plants the other day too. I saved all of the green ones and I have them out on my deck to ripen now. I bring some in and put them in the window sill also. I am ready for fall. I heard we may have a rough winter. I like snow though.

It is kind of sad to let them go isn't it? You also have all winter to decide what is going to be planted next year, if your going to add new things and if you canned or froze any of this years goodies you'll get to enjoy them through the winter.

It does give you a good rest before the next season starts. You have your snow there while we are experiencing wet season followed by strong wind. The weather here is not so good lately. It is likely that rainy season will last till the year end. I love the sunny weather and have not experience winter as you have in your place.

If you have a basement, you can pull your tomato vines up by the roots, shake the dirt off them and hang them upside down in the basement. I had a friend in northern New Mexico that did that and had "fresh" ripe tomatoes until January or February of the next year.
That looks like a sumptuous harvest!

I wrap green tomatoes in newspaper then store them in a box in the basement. When I want fresh tomatoes I take them out and set them in the suinshine. A couple days later I've fresh red ripe tomatoes.

In Australia, we're getting ready for summer! Yesterday we had 35 degrees where I live - and today it's raining and is about 24, I think. It's a time of strange days, where one day will be drastically different to the next. You're never sure what you're getting until you open your eyes in the morning. Enjoy your snow shovelling!

Hi GRANDPA BOB,
At least you have your veggies to eat during those long winter days, wher I live we don't gey any snow now, we used to many years ago but now we're luck if we see a flurrie of snow and whe it does falls it just melts away and then the rain will come, we have more rain than anything else her. We may see frost to start of with but all we get now is cold wind and rain. Take care.

yes, I am ready for the snow and cold. I live in southern Florida. So does that mean you plan on sending some cold and snow down my way this year?
I don't think have the people down here would know what to do in snow.

Wow, I'm sorry about your garden. However just think you could grow some plants in the house, right? Plus, it will be less of your gardening. Will you freeze/can some of your prizes? I don't think I like the snow & cold. Will your vegetables be getting ripe so you can get them?

A friend of mine from Mylot
has convinced me to start a small
veggie garden.
How could I resist after she told me
how many squash came off one vine!
Those squash cost a fortune in our
local market.
I will save so much money!
Happy that your garden has been bountiful
this year.
