Did You Have A Car In High School?

And if you did, what kind of car did you have? Brand new, used, a clunker, a hand-me-down perhaps? Did you pay for it and do you remember how much your insurance was. How cool were you, or thought you were because you had a car? Just asking.

Since I'm older than dirt, it wasn't as old as it might seem now. I bought a 1955 d convertible from the police for $20.00. It had been an undercover car, so it had everything in it they made It also had a specially made engine for chases, so I won drag races with all the boys who thought a girl in an old car couldn'tet anywhere before they hit the finish line! Insurance was $15 a year for full coverage. Gas was 2 gallons for a quarter. I was, without question, the coolest kid in the neighborhood, in my baby-blue-and-white car! I sold it after having driven it for about four years and well over 75,000 miles, for $350.00!

Whoa!!! That truly sounds like the good old days. Wow! I wonder if we'll ever get 2 gallons for a quarter again? I wish I was there to see you win those drag races. A piece of Americana. And boy did you make a nice little profit when you sold that. Nice!!!

It was fun! It would be great if we could even get gas for le of dollars a gallon again! Incidentally, I made at least a couple of dollars every day from those boys who thought they could out-race me.

Ah, but then again, it was good to have friends even if they had beat up junk heaps.

No I did not have a car of my own in high school. I was lucky to have a bike! I drove my parent's old clunker when I needed transportation. Dad had a Nash Rambler that I sware ran on 3 wheels. It would barely go. Was driving it one day after school, hit a bump and the driveshaft fell out on the street. It was a rather interesting experience. I can also remember driving this car to a spot in the local park which was called lover's lane. The front seats could flatten so I took advantage of it. Had a friend with me and we flattened the seats, turned the steering wheel to go one direction and drove around in circles. We laughed so hard thinking others saw nobody in the car and yet the car was moving. Oh the mind of a 17 year old.

I didn't have a car in high school. I got my first car after graduating. I bought it on my own too. I thought it would have been very cool to have a car to drive to school.

I guess most of us would have felt cool having a car in high school.

I did have a car at the time I was finishing high school, but I didn't take it to school. THere was no need, my school was so close to home. At that time I lived with mom and dad that not only gave me the car but also paid for insurance so life was sweet. I sure can't do the same to my kids. I didn't really think much about it other than the fact that I loved to drive and it was really nice to have a car. I didn't even use it every day until I was in University because it was farther.

no I have never owned a car in my entire life. I never had the money for one. NOw I would be too afraid to learn how to drive at my age.

No, I did not have one. High school students here in the Philippines could not get a license until they are 17. At 17, I was already in college. My mom bought me a car when I was 17 but I was learning how to drive since I was 15. Driving is stressing me out especially when there is heavy traffic.

I did have a car in high school. I paid for half, my parents paid for half. It cost about $800, and the insurance was kind of expensive- risk pool for inexperienced driver. It was kind of a junker, but it got me from A to B-- most days. Most of the other kids' cars were nicer, and that bothered me some, though I didn't want to admit it. But I did feel good about having a car.

I had like two cars in high the first was my first car a 1978 Chevy Nova it was a nice muscle car and I had it my Junior year until one day I lost control and ran into a welding truck and nearly blew myself up,then the summer before my Senior year I got a 1985 Honda Accord Hatchback which I drove for my entire Senior year and I had that car for like three years before it stopped moving because of all the problems it had.
