Why Can't I Breathe At Night?

Could this just be part of menopause or pre-menopause? I lay down in my cozy bed and I feel my throat tighten up, my nose goes dry and I can't seem to get a breath. Last night I finally just gooped up my nose with vapor rub. Lovely. It did get me to sleep. Maybe I'm not adjusting to desert weather. Anyhow, why can't I breathe at night? Any cures?

It could be allergies, when it is windy they seem to kick in high gear for a lot of people in the desert, take care please.

Hi Shelly, I definitely have allergies--coughing, sneezing, runny nose and watery eyes. Yikes, I'm a mess. And the winds are kicking up. But this is something I've had for three years now. Hopefully, that's all it is though. I can deal with allergies.

I'm pretty sure it happened soon after we moved to the desert. It might be that I'm just not acclimating, if that's the right word. I guess after three years I should visit a doctor. Thanks, my friend.

You probably have allergies or it could be the very dry, desert weather. Have you tried a humidifier? Our daughter lives in Arizona and when I visit, my nose bleeds and my lips get so dry and chapped I can hardly eat. I am so use to the midwest, damp weather that I can't adjust while out there visiting. Might be worth contacting your doctor and get some suggestions to ease your discomfort or see if they can do some testing.

I use Chapstick constantly when I am visiting. Over the counter nose spray is good too. Think it's called Ocean which is basically water and will keep your nose moist. Hope you are feeling better.

I'm looking to get a hold of a humidifier. You might be right that it's allergies. At least I'm hoping so. My lips get very dry too and my nose bleeds. Oy, I am a mess in the desert.

It might be the beginning of a sleep disorder. Have you gone to the doctor about this? How long has it been going on? Could it be sleep apnea or something like that? Not being able to breathe is a serious thing. You should go to the doctor and have this checked out.

your most welcome. I have to use a nose soray by Ocean to keep my nose moist and for it not to bleed in this dry heat!

Never thought of a humidifier. Thanks, Lakota, I'll have to see if that works.

I have been like that for a long time. Way before it was time for me to get into menopause. As soon as I lay down, that is it. I already have trouble breathing because I don't breathe trough my nose, but trough my mouth which causes my throat to be dry all the time. But even though I don't breathe much trough the nose it still bother me a lot when it's all plugged up. I'm sorry I have no special cures. The vaporizer seems to help some, as well as saline solution drops or spray.

My throat gets very dry also. I'm using Vix vapor rub. It seems to be helping even though it's gross. Thanks arka, hope you're feeling okay.

I've been lucky this winter so far, but I'm already noticing that with the heating on it's starting to get dry in here. I'll just have to get the vaporizer out of the closet :)

Try putting a fan on, gently,at night. I do not know that it is menopause, or the desert weather. It could go along with night sweats, or different pollens. You could also elevate the head of your bed.

I've added an extra pillow and see if that will alleviate anything. Thanks GG.

I'm not sure what the cure is for it. It could possibly the chnage of lcimate that you are not used to. It is also cold season and something is going around.

It could be an allergy at night. Something is annoying you, or the weather. It could also be sleep apnea. Do you have high blood pressure? I have asthma and breathing difficulty at night is a common symptom of that also.

I'm really hoping that it's not sleep apnea. Pretty scary stuff. Anyway, thanks for stopping by, hildas. Have a wonderful week.
